CTKT Onion Ripple, can't stop flipping!

The Ripple is a nice knife but its far from the be-all end-all of flipper designs. There's lots of others that you won't be disappointed with. The ZT560 and ZT566 are really nice and Kershaw makes a bunch of inexpensive ones like the Skyline or if you can hunt one down the discontinued OD1 has a unique flipper mechanism that's silky smooth. There's also some newer designs from Spyderco and Benchmade. You can always use more knives:)

I cannot think that a blade that runs on washers such as the skyline or the chill will flip as nicely as my ripple. It is as a perfect point for me, it flips every single time I hit that flipper, no matter how hard I hit it, once it overcomes the detent it flies out.
It is a fantastic entry level flipper but, of course, higher end knives will be smoother.

The od-2 is on my wish list.:D

Yup, from now on I'll post google searches of my collection ;)

No need to get bent out of shape Alann. I was just having fun with ya.i apologize if I offended you.

No need to apologize.
Not even a tidily bit of bent on my part.
Took no offense and intended none.

Posted the google search in the same since of fun.:D

Just got this at city Mill on sale I think I might go back for one more my first flipper and it is hard to put down

bfee - I have the same model. It is a remarkable knife - don't care what anyone else says about it.

I'm going on a business trip on Sunday, when I get back I may post a pic. Nothing exciting, but it is so darn smooth! I showed a few people at work, I was worried that I wasn't getting it back as they were having a lot of fun flipping it.

:D

I don't see how any one could poo poo this knife. tight no wiggle, blade hair cutting sharp right out of the box and for me my first flipper..dam it's fun to play with. Oh yea $25.00 :D

The Ripple was the first CRKT that sparked my interest in a long time, probably since the days of the S2 and Apache. It's the smoothest $30 flipper I've tried but IMO the handle is kind of ugly.

Couple ikbs pics. Don't fear the bearings jumping out on you, the factory grease is so thick they are effectively glued in there. I switched to a lighter lube and it became noticeably smoother. Quite unnecessary though.

I did the same thing, cleaned it all out and switched to tuf glide. It used to be really smooth. Now its stupid smooth.

I took apart one of my cheaper ripples and I wasn't so fortunate with the bearings and I ended losing several so be careful pulling one apart the bearings don't always stay where they should

Get ahold of a Swindle. You'll look at your Ripple as an ugly stepchild by comparison. Not that I don't love my Ripple too. Just a huge step up for Ken Onion design!

Really, beauty must be in the eye of the beholder cuz I'm not loving the look. Maybe it is smoother or something?

I'd have to agree the Swindle is the best looking. The "pocket worn" finish on the Ripple varies a LOT from one knife to another and to me doesn't add a lot to the looks.
Except maybe the blue stainless steel version Ripple in the first version, which looks really nice. I picked up another at Blade that had zero of the pocket worn look.

I've handled a Swindle and almost ordered one, just have not been won over (yet) by the reverse bent....sure its different, but still.
Do like the overall looks and the modified wharncliffe blade.

Just bought another Ken Onion flipper, this time from a pawn shop for $13:

Can't wait to compare it to the Ripple.

I'm mainly into Traditional Knives but I got one of these yesterday.

It cost me a bit more because I live in Europe but even with delivery charges, a really good buy.

I like the finish, the action, the excellent sharpness new and the look of it and weight. A minimalist aspect but very attractive and practical.

BUT... I'm inexperienced with these type of knives so I'd appreciate advice/exp. The pocket clip is ridiculously tight, how the hell do you clip this on any pocket? What a struggle! Then, is it actually safe in the pocket? While wrestling to clip it on, I nearly flipped it open..can it open in the pocket??? Could be horrendous as I can't find any safety lock on it like on a Chive etc.

Nevertheless, I really like it but I'm just a bit wary of its safety ergos. Yes, flipping it is really satisfying:D

Thanks, Will

This is my personal favourite knife, although it shares roughly equal pocket time with my mini grip, persistence and sage...although it needs a little more sharpening than I'd like to do (CRKT, if you're listening, if you re-release the full size blue stainless handled one in something like 154CM or s30V I'm going to pick up a several lifetime supply, and maybe a couple to give as gifts too!!!).

I found the clip overly tight as well. I removed the clip after one of the screw heads popped off (I assume from the stress of being so tight) and bent it out just a little so it only just rests on the handle and doesn't have any tension and it's far easier to clip on and off now. It's still tight enough that it doesn't move in the pockets of any pants I've tried since. CRKT warranty was great about it too...they sent me 3 replacement screws, though I'm not too worried about it happening again.

Just cut up some really tough dog treats with my Ripple. Not only is this knife fun and gorgeous, but it's a great performer, too! I was really surprise. I expected good things, but this knife is great!
