Something to return the patina to this little peanut, I need to order two bushels of stamen winesap apples for cooking, baking and plain ol' cutting up and eating. Perfect patina opportunity.

Here is my new Case chestnut bone peanut in cv, paired with my dark red bone in cv and yellow stainless. Loving the chestnut! My peanut collection is growing slowly but surely! I'm starting to see that all I really need is a humble, very capable peanut.

Question for the Peanut experts: Did Case ever make a stag Peanut with a red oval shield? If so do you happen to have any info regarding it such as year, SFO, etc.

Thanks much.

Great pics all! A co-worker of mine just fell for the peanut after playing around with mine. He went with the pocket worn red in cv instead of the chestnut! These little guys are contagious!

Yes! Peanuts are very much like potato chips, or their legume namesakes from Planters. It's darn hard to have just one.
:D

We're gearing up for a move this weekend, and this little guy has admirably carried all of the cutting load (tape, boxes, nylon ties, you name it).

I like my Case Peanut,

Long pulls on peanuts with swedges. It would be nice, but we can't have everything.

Unless we can find a maker crazy enough to make a custom peanut for us. Seems like all of the makers that craft a peanut once, swear to never do it again :(.

When I get bored recently, I have picked up the habit of carving helical spirals into small sticks. I don't really know why I picked it up, but I have found it a nice way to pass the time.

I would love for Case to make a Peanut with a spear blade and scissors, with a matchstrike pull on the spear, maybe with some ebony covers and brass bolsters and liners.

I think that this was the secret of the Little Finn style of knives that were popular when I was a kid. In the 1950's, it seems like every other man who was an outdoorsman, a real hunter and fisherman, had one of those little leather washer handle Case or Kabar or even Western on their belts. They all were mostly a 3 inch blade of some pretty thin stock. They got used for fish and game up to deer sized animals. The thin blade didn't seem to be any kind of detriment, but if anything it was a plus to the people who carried and used and loved them. I even remember seeing a mini finn from Western Cutlery. It wasn't much bigger than an open peanut, but still had the stacked leather handle and small thin pointy blade. It was sold as a small game knife.

The road to small is an interesting journey!:)

I've been looking at the Little Finn knives lately, but none of them are in carbon steel, and the case is the only one thats still U.S. Made these days unless you count the Buck 102 as a cousin of said Finn. Honestly, theyre pretty similar, but the stock is a bit thick on the 102 IMHO.

Thoughts?

That's pretty neat! I'll have to give this a try.

I'm going to round out this oak a little and give the spiral a try! Thanks for the idea!

shawl_13, your stag peanut is fantastic, in my opinion!:thumbup: (Of course, I'm a little biased ... See below. :D)

Impressive "wood sculptures", Ben and Langler! Doing spirals is one of my favorite "practice exercises", too, but I tend to not dare go as deep as you guys did, because I often break my stick if I do!
