Cult of the peanut , members

I was admiring one of my Stockmans thinking of putting it in my pocket for a few days to see how it got along with my peanut and in walks my son. He being curious want to know what I was doing with that knife. I told him and he asked where the peanut was. I pulled it from my pocket and showed him it was there. He asked me why I needed another knife besides the peanut. I said I didn't know. Needless to say the stockman went back in the drawer. Love that kid and he is right it gets 99% of my cutting done. I guess he saw a knife nut having a nutty moment.

On the one hand:”What a smart kid. He’s right. I only need my peanut to cut what I need cutting in a daily basis.”
On the other hand:”:mad:! Doesn’t he know I suffer from knife accumulitis! I need to carry more than one knife, even if it sits in my pocket! :p

And to emphasize the point: two is one and one is none. If you were to lose one, you’d have nothing to cut with! A spare is always needed.

If there was only a cure for the sickness. Bad thing is he has the beginnings of knife accumulitis. He enjoys looking at everyone's knives here. I have handed down some of my collection to him. Every time we do some work out side he asks to carry one of his knives. I gave him a peanut just like mine and it is his go to blade.

Mike, cherish your son, he may be one of the gifted. One of the few. One of the mythical 'one knife man.' I grew up with one, my dad, and he just carried his peanut. Somehow he got through life with that little legume in his pocket, and a cut down machete inches car trunk.

It cold very well be that our affliction has skipped a generation and your son will be spared the obsession of accumulitus that we suffer from. Maybe when he is old enough for that first knife, the gift of a peanut will make him a one knife man. Maybe. He even may become a central member of The Cult! Perhaps a position in the inner circle. Perhaps even, dare I say, a future Grand High Muckba!o_O

Oh I do cherish him. He is old enough I let him carry it when we work or go places. When I was on school here in Oklahoma in the 80s and 90s it was still common for us boys to carry our pocket knives to school. Now days a peanut at school would spell big trouble. But he will be raised in all the special teachings of the cult. He does like to watch the forums with me from time to time and I tell him stories of growing up on the farm with my dad and grandpa.

Yeah, I understand that now all schools no matter where, have that zero tolerance policy with pocket knives. I felt with that with my kids and grandkids and I never liked it.

I guess the influence on what your son will carry will somewhat depend on if he's growing up country or urban/suburban, and what he chooses for a profession.

These two have been getting it done as my edc since Christmas. The peanut I got for Christmas almost 2 years ago and it goes everywhere I go. The recruit I got this last Christmas.

I am raising him country as far as trying to pass on a good work ethic. He plans on playing in the NBA. Lol. Don't know when he would need a knife doing that but the mighty peanut would be a perfect hide in plain sight companion.

I did peen it a little. I had never done it before. It doesn't look the best but the knife still works good.

Thank you, it showed a bit and of course, I was curious, so hence my question for you.
Haven't needed to do this in a peanut, but it was done on two stockmen, a case yellow and a buck 303. That was a long time ago, and I'm not sure I would peen them again. Still, no problems with them since.
Have fun.

Anyway, a bit of rubbing with a cleaning kitchen sponge, let's say a Scotch-Brite more abrasive side, like the green one, can clean or let's say hide stuff like that in seconds. The yellow side, not that abrasive, can work too. Just pay attention, and consider it like it was a sandpaper...
Made miracles with my two stockmen I have, the yellow one was too wobbly, and the 303 had a tiny play. A bit of peening enlarged the top of the pin and it was done after I squeezed the bolster for a bit in a tiny vice, showing the pin, and then hit the pin for a while, with tiny hits of a small hammer.
Then I used a bit of sponge, and they presented like new.

I thought about scotch brite. Just haven't done it yet. I did some carving and some other heavy work with the peanut awhile back and it had some wobble. My OCD kicked in so I peened it. I can say I have tested the limits of the peanut. Thanks for your input. I will have to work on cleaning it up now.

Good thing you have tested it rightfully. Me, haven't had any problems with mine, bought in 2011, but I wouldn't say it was under heavy work. Apple slices, opening bags, plastic, carton, some carving, also some carving in peach seeds, stuff like that, general use I can say.
