Custom 124 is now available with D2, MagnaCut, and CruWear blade steel options - Officially Released on 1/24

124 has always been a premium offering. That combined with being a custom shop item it’s more of a nod to the 124 sickos than anything. How many other knife companies even offer this level of customization on an already niche product line? This is literally for the 18 “I love the 124 but wish I had it in magnacut” guys.

I suppose it also applies to the mentally ill “gotta catch em all” collector types too 😂.
There are some of us that buy them because we like them.
😉

I found that they are charging the same price to start with that they charge for the regular 124. This seems different than the other knives that have always been higher to start before “customizing”.

One thing that I would like to see is Buck allowing us to use the Pro discount for “customizing” knives.

As far as the full flat grind on the special steels, it depends on what your plan is for the knife. First, are you actually using it? If not, then get the 420HC. If it will be a chopper, get the 420HC. Now, if it will be a game knife, then the flat grind will better serve in most cases. The aesthetics are better on the hollow grind. Flat grinds are better other than that!

I love that Buck finally started offering the 124 in more steel types. It'd be nice if 3V were an option but hey, I'm just glad there's more variety now. I'd also like to see Chip Flint be an option for this knife (and others) too. Good thing Leroy Remer is a friend of mine and can pretty much do whatever I want😁 I love my 124 in 5160, perfect steel for this knife IMO. This is mine, customized by Leroy.

I have one in 5160. Can confirm. It’s awesome. Honestly more interested in the FFG the cruwear and magnacut offerings have but not for the price.
i have 1 of them myself. they did make them in the past. cant remember if was a c&c run or just factory deal. they should add the 5160 steel to the custom shop.....this knife makes lot of sense in 5160.....since thats Bucks only carbon steel choice.

prices are what they are. I built a knife that was over 500 bucks and its not worth this kinda money....had great options on it though. im not buying it though at that price point.

In reading knucklegary’s screenshotted email from Buck, it turns out all 124’s have a hollow grind, regardless of the steel choice.

It must be a very subtle hollow grind, pretty close to a flat grind? It has no flat section or grind line near the spine...that's what makes it look wrong to me.

Q&A a few days ago. Received this reply on custom shop blade finishes.
That's the good news.. Bad news, for me anyway, reading reviews, Buck stamps printing across one side along the flats "The Buck Custom Shop" like nobody'd going to know it's a Buck 🙄
I apologize for the confusion. the new steels offered in the Custom Shop for the 124 Frontiersman (MagnaCut, D2, Cru-wear) are full panel flat ground. The 420HC are a traditional hollow grind.

Wood, brass and Cruwear 🥰. I like the flat grind, makes it different from my standard 124; also easier to make peanut butter sandwiches with :)

Traded in a spare DEK1 to order it yesterday. We'll see how it comes out in March, I guess.
