Leather Custom Axe Sling Build

Traditionally, I think a woven Birch Bark mask is what a guy would end up with back in the day. Everything I have seen along the lines of a sheath for this style has been pretty basic masks, Kydex, or much more minimalist than what you have created. Even the old-style military issue just covered the bit and connected to a collar/belt-loop combo.

ithinkverydeeply ithinkverydeeply , your planning and execution on this setup for the Kemi is somewhat of an opus.

Thank you all for the compliments! It’s high praise coming from you guys.

I’m really happy that you appreciate it Agent_H Agent_H , it’s fun for me to know you have it!

If you find you never use and don’t want all that excess strap let me know. I can send you some edge paint (should have included it) so you can cut it down and touch up the end of the strap.

ithinkverydeeply ithinkverydeeply , I had my wife take some photos but they really weren't any better than these backyard shots just now. Hard enough to take my photo without me blending into anything lighter colored and I figured my mug should show.

This Kirves sling really is the nicest piece of "handmade awesome" that I own, hands down.

Nice! I never did get any pictures of me wearing it but it sure did seem comfortable.

The riveting and the sewing are perfect but what impresses me the most is the wet forming which isn't the easiest part. I do like your shirt as well.

Dan.

Wholeheartedly agree with your take on ITVD's leather work! I'm hoping to conscript him for future projects.
Funny you mentioned the shirt - I get a kick out of it too. It, and another really nice blue one, were garage sale scores.
I'd just come back from a barbecue with my family, not felling trees.

Thanks for posting. Is that that handsome devil in the photo really you? Like it a lot. Now I have a strong desire to make one (or more?) for my self. I'm not up to the level of craftsmanship of ithinkverydeeply ithinkverydeeply by any means, but I think I could make a very basic functional sling that would work for me. Kudos guys:thumbsup:
