Custom Dyed GEC’s by Nathan & Travis

I have 2 that are lighter in colour like your one was. What do you charge for darkening the bone covers?

Love seeing the before and after pics. Has anyone considered dying a soup bone spear a deep red. So then you would have a matching set of Red soup bone TC barlows. Well you would have to find a lightly dyed one but most of the ones I have seen are kinda dark.

Nathan’s latest project. I bought this Soup Bone SFA #14 at the 2022 GEC Rendezvous. It was a bit of a disappointment for two reasons. The first problem was that it had a long scratch down the length of the blade that I noticed after bringing it home. That happens sometimes when they’re wiping the blades down in the factory. But for me, the biggest issue was the gray polishing smudge that had been impregnated into the bone near the bolsters. You can clearly see it in these pictures, however, with certain lighting, it looked a lot worse than what we see here. Before:IMG_0054.jpeg

So, the Soup Bone SFA #14 became a “user”. I polished off the factory etch & forched a patina. I dyed it dark red several times. The bone on this one was extremely resistant to absorbing the dye, which resulted in a molted appearance. IMG_7393.jpeg
I liked the look. However, to me, it just didn’t look finished. I wanted a more uniform and darker look throughout the bone.
