In ten essentials courses, I regularly refer to human beings inadequacies with respect to insulating fur or fat, talons to catch food or large eyes to see at night. I believe we need to carry equipment to compensate for these shortcomings and the one I have been refining over the years is my woods gun carry for my G21 with Surefire X300 attached. On canoe trips last year, I routinely carried this durable combo and it was a nice companion at night in my hammock when the lights went out.

As an aspiring leatherworker in my hobby time, I love the feel of leather. However, on a canoe trip, moisture is a major concern and the combination of leather, firearms and water usually results in rust and pitting. In need of a solution, I contacted a martial arts training partner who offered a kydex solution.

Bladerigs.com is a kydex sheath and holster company that has been hired to make kydex rigs for a few different organizations. Having seen Nick's (head kydex bender) work, I had faith he could pull it off. That being said, I visited his shop for a tour and to swap some ideas.

Nick is a true craftsman and the holster he made me is one you guys should consider. Nick understands designs and can custom fit (literally) your blades or firearms to his sheaths and holsters. I watched him work on mora sheaths and this holster and his attention to detail was astounding. With my background in wilderness survival training and my experience with other holsters, I gave Nick my suggestions. Nick's experience behind a kydex mold, behind the trigger and in self-defense training added to the final design and end product.

What you see in these pictures is a kydex OWB holster for a Glock 21 with Surefire x300 light attached. I haven't had enough time practicing with this set up other than some dry firing (range has been closed) but will be out to test it out for real. I can say for now it holsters and draws very cleanly and rides nicely on the body. It has adjustable retention from two hex screws and rubber washers. The belt loop is integral and fits my 1.5" belt perfectly.

You can expect to see more pictures of me on trips with this setup in the future! The best part about my visit to Bladerigs.com was the collaborative process. Get ready for some really cool kydex pocket accessories to come out of his shop in the near future. Nick has already established himself in the kydex world for various martial arts organizations and with some new products coming off the line in a few weeks, I think he'll be popular in the survival industry too.

If you guys are interested in kydex gear for the outdoors, Nick is your man. Check him out at www.bladerigs.com You won't be disappointed.

Very nice, I think I'd like to get a light and make some similar kydex for my glock for camping trips.
