Custom knife prices - bubble?

Oh, and I forgot to mention.

I think there are quite a few people who are just trying to make a quick buck flipping knives. I think that feeds the prices going up because they are always asking higher and higher prices and they are buying anything they see because they are expecting prices to continue going up ad infinitum.

In a world where I see new listings for folders for north of $7K practically every week, this thread is . . . interesting.

You mean to tell me the Old Dog's slippies aren't worth $3000 (and that's just for a single blade)? Can I interest you in a Tulip bulb?

When you hear on the news every day that the income disparity between "the rich" and well, everyone else, is growing by leaps and bounds, what do you expect? There are plenty of guys out there who wouldn't think twice about dropping a Grand on a knife. It's pocket change to them. Then add in all the guys who get caught up in the hype and follow them in, and you have some real money floating around. It's not just the custom makers who are getting sky high prices, the production knife companies are getting crazy prices too if you ask me. Benchmade, who I think makes a great knife, jacked up their prices 2 years ago to crazy levels. Go buy a Bark River knife at Knivesshipfree. It's nuts what they are asking. Saddly, all this buying begets crazy prices has filtered down to the bottom of the pond where you see the "lipstick on a pig" effect - a company like Boker gets their hands on a fanboy maker's design and produces a relatively low quality knife selling at a comparatively stupid high price for what you actually get. Just remember one thing. When prices are extended they tend to get extendeder. Bubbles can go on for a long long time.

I stated that a trend that could last up to 20 years is still a trend.

The Squail by Boker, ingeniously designed by Charles Marlowe is every bit as good as any knife I have ever handled...it's a beefy liner lock, titanium dovetailed bolsters, stonewashed 440C recurve blade, small, stylish tip down high-ride pocket clip, beadblasted green micarta scales...wonderful knife, streets at $100.00. Simply incredible workmanship, sadly done in China, I cannot keep them in stock, and have purchased and carried one for 3 weeks now. Not a bad thing to say about it.

I can say the same for the Boker/Burnley Kwaiken folder... w/o the bugs. This is a PERFECT folder design.

I've moved a couple of posts in this thread offline and I'll explain why.

@ MR Knives

Your post in this thread is off-topic and in bad form. You'll not do yourself any favors by spamming threads with posts like this.

@ martinr

Insulting other members will always get you dinged.

Please continue and stay on topic.

Thanks
