Please note I am closing this thread. This thread was started and used before my forum was started but now that I have a forum of my own I decided to leave this here for the pictures and information only. Please ask any question by starting a new thread of your own. Thanks.

Ok I'm going to edit this today (May 17 2007) even though its a very old post and I do that since it was just moved to my forum at my request. This thread has been ongoing for some time and back when the site had a mini crash where it was down for a week or more I lost a lot of the pictures that were up so expect to see some red x's all over where those pictures used to be. Some of those are so old I no longer have them so please excuse that. Newer work is toward the latter pages of course and most of the pictures posted after a certain point will still show fine.

If you have a question about a pocket clip here is the place to ask it.

All my custom low rider clips are made to order one at a time. I don't keep them in stock on hand. I usually need the knife to do one for you, I really can tell a lot from pictures so if you plan to do that it may be best to attatch some with the question.

All my custom titanium pocket clips are $30 plus shipping. Shipping fees since May 14th with the postage increase has bumped that up to $7 plus or minus for getting your knife back to you. In the past I have knocked some off for multiple orders.

Finish choices are bead blasted or anodized a color. Blue jean blue, khaki and darker bronze are the three top requests for color due to how well they blend with slacks to give the user a bit of "urban camo" in the office or city environment. I cannot get a black color sorry.

Turn around time is usually 24 to 48 hours once I get the knife in hand.

Lastly I've always asked everyone that mails me a knife to please include a note with the knife detailing exactly what I'm doing or what you want me to look at, and I need this even though we have gone over it once with me already. I get a huge amount of emails and questions and many times get the same knife models over and over again so I don't always know what I'm supposed to do with your folder if all thats in the box is the knife and nothing else. If I have to take time to search contacts it means I'll have your knife longer and have to put it in the back of the line bumping those behind you ahead because I know what I need to do on them and get them out. Once I'm in the shop its very difficult to make the trip back to the house to get on the computer to find out these details. My shop is a good walk from the house but also my lap top burned up on me so the wireless is a thing of the past. Also, please make it a point to include both your real name and your screen name so I know who I'm dealing with. I don't always associate your real name with the knives I have in hand if your original contact to me was via private message using your screen name so when its under a different name other than the one in the return address I get confused or can't find you without all this info.

For pocket clips I need to know the following. The style of clip you want me to make, either standard style non low rider type or low rider, the finish choice you want, either bead blasted or anodized, the mode of carry either tip up or tip down, and finally right or left hand carry. If you saw one you liked somewhere that I did for someone else its a good idea to include a printed copy of that rather than a link since I won't have access to the computer once I'm working on your folder. Also, please be sure I can read the return address. This helps me to prevent mailing to the wrong address or having to delay shipping to you. In other words if your handwriting is bad, please type it out. :-)

Once you've read this post and are ready to mail you can contact me at STRsBackYardKnifeWorksatgmail.com Note: remember to replace 'at' with the @ sign before sending.

Most of the posts that follow up until the last page are very old and anything said there about prices if there are any I missed cannot be trusted so look here and then to the last pages to get current.

Thanks for looking.

I ran out of pic space on that first post.

I can also custom make some low rider clips for your folder that are unique and one of a kind should you want one.

Here is an example of one I did for an AlMar Nomad recently.

Thanks.

And as I said I can also either make a custom clip or install a knife kits clip like the one pictured here.

Other times I can often make your existing clip work for you by just flipping it around and remounting it. Whether this will work is specific to each knife. Case by case basis on these. (note: ignore my Boye folder in the middle of the Almite Walker and BM905 that I converted to tip up carry for a forum member. It was used for comparison only.)

WHat is the cost of these little beauties?

I have a Mini Skirmish - what would it cost me?

The prices are there guys.

If I need the knife mailed to me its $30. On ones that need to have holes drilled and threaded that is when I need it mailed out to me. If you want one that is stuck on it by using the original holes it came with I can make one and mail it to you for $15. I can only do this for the Military or Para Military at this time.

As for the others I've never worked on a Mini Skirmish so I will need to look at some pics and see what I'm up against and when I do I'll leave another post to answer your question on that one.

As for the CF Spyderco knives. I just did a CF Harpy today.
Here is the pic of it. This was very hard to pull off. I'm afraid that its going to take $35 to make me tackle another one. Sorry if that seems steep but you are talking about drilling and then threading hardened stainless steel. It is not as easy as threading titanium or aluminum or brass. In fact its a different league altogether. Also, these Spyderco knives do not come apart like you think because there is a lip on the lanyard sleeve that prevents you from removing the carbon fiber scale. It makes the whole job very tricky and the delicate nature of both CF and Micarta for scratching means I have to take longer to do it and be more careful so I hope you understand that time is money. It took me about 45 minutes start to finish to get this thing done to my satisfaction. Granted the next one may be faster as the first is always hardest.

I'm easy to reach. Just let me know if you want to proceed.

Oh and as for black clips. I do not have a way to make a black pocket clip guys. I can bead blast it or anodize it a darker color for you that is as close to black as I can get. That is about it. To be honest I spend a good bit of time bead blasting black clips for people just because the black coating scratches all up and looks bad anyways. The bead blasted finish holds up as good or better than anything else I can do for you.

I'm sure I can work on the Mini Skimish for a clip flip. It looks like the original clip should be fine to flip for you or if you prefer I can custom make you a new one that curves more for the tip up carry. I can bead blast or anodize that just let me know what you want. I'm limited to the colors I can get with anodizing though but I'll try.

If you want me to just flip the original factory clip you have on the knife send the knife with a $10 bill in the clip and I'll do it.

If you want a custom made one stick a $30 in the clip. I'll know when I see it what you decided.

Contact me privately for my address if you want me to do that for you. I can get that done same day I get it and have it right back in the mail to you probably that afternoon.

I am interested in the "flip clip" idea - custom. What kind of time frame are we talking?

I will send you an email tomorrow and we can discuss the details.

That sounds fine. I usually get the smaller stuff like this done the same day. Most often my mail arrives by 10:30 to 11 am and I get stuff mailed out by around 4:15 pm. The only exceptions are if the mail happens to arrive too late in the day and that is rare but it happens.

Three days to get here, three to get back. Most of the time its a week turn around.

PM or email me and we'll go from there.

Thanks.

Steve

Good evening, everybody:
You can see four of my knives in the above pictures:
Benchmade 905
Spyderco CF Harpy
Spyderco Blue Almite Walker
Al Mar Nomad
STR did not only work on this but also on the following two:
Spyderco Pro-Grip
Benchmade 420
STR has flipped existing clips, created new clips and “waved” knives for me.
All his work is of outstanding quality. His turnaround time is phenomenal. His prices are more than fair. And on top of it he never gets tired of answering his customers’ questions. A true gentleman.
If you need any work done on your knives, STR is your man.
Regards,
FRIZ

Thanks Friz. That is very nice to hear.

I do make some Wave mods for member's existing folders. I have Ernie Emerson's express written permission to do them also.

I guess I forgot to mention some of the other stuff I do and sell.

Waves are one. Here are a couple of the more exceptional ones. One of these is my personal and the other two pictured here are Friz's property. My profile link to my homepage can lead you to more of my work also.

I also make custom lanyard straps from para cord for $2.50 a piece and I really enjoy sitting around tying them while watching the tube.

Hello,
Steve put a clip and a thumbstud and an adjustable pivot on my Buck 560 pictured above, all for the price of the pocketclip job:thumbup: . Steve's the best deal going today. Great communication. He cares about his customers and their knives. And, I enjoy reading his posts.

Thanks,
bob7

I see that. I tried to reply and to send you an email but you have chosen not to recieve them.

So, I'll paste it here for you.

Hi Steve ,
thinking of doing a clip like the one on the Al Mar for my BM 800S. I'd probably carry it if it were tip up.
Waddaya think?
Thanks, jason

I am not familar with that knife. Do you have pics of it? I tried both a Google and Yahoo search and found very little on it at all picture wise. I really can't tell you anything without seeing it.

If it is anything like the 905 model by BM I can just flip the existing clip for you. I do know that the older models from BM had pretty good lower sitting pocket clips than the new ones for the most part. The bend on the three screw ones was made very high on them and they could be made to sit pretty low just the way they came from the factory.

If you want me to do that I can do it for $10 if it will work. I'll know if I can see it.

As for the AlMar style clip. I can probably do that too but I can't say much until I see it.

If you can send me a pic via email or at least a link if you find one showing both sides of the model you want me to work on and we'll go from there.

Thanks.

Here is my latests clip that I did for badjujuboys BenchMade 800S.

Thanks Jason for trusting me with that beautiful knife.

And here is one I made for another forum members Military. Hoping to hear that it is riding low anyday now.

Steve,
Looks great  Can't wait to get my hands on it!:D
I'll let you know when it arrives. Great turnaround time too!
Thanks, jason

Steve is a great guy.
Makes a very good folder as well.
Always tries to be helpful and is a man of his word.

I'm very interested in obtaining low ride clips for a couple of Emersons. Can you fabricate the clips using the same mounting holes? If so do you need the knives sent to you or can you fabricate by modeling the existing clips?
Thanks,
Sam

Hi thanks for asking. I always say that it is best to have the knife in hand. But I have had good success with just the clip in hand on some of these so chances are that I can make one up using just the existing clip as a template. The ones where I really must have the knife are the ones where I have to drill and thread new holes so if you want me to make you a low rider on the same lines as the original but folded over send it on.

You are looking at $15 per clip on something like that using titanium and bead blasting it afterwards..

Feel free to contact me via PM or email and I'll send you my address if you want to proceed.
