Custom shop

I don't buy what he(vissy) says for a second:jerkit:, the inflated price probably didn't set well with others at Buck knives and this is probably his way of trying to correct and put the price where it should be.

OOPS!!!! ...goose,,,,the fiji orange is yuck....

Yeah Tom, Tony, Doc D, and Larry...something don't seem right about the whole thing.
OK, IF that post was from the young gun VP, then I applaud the honesty.

But I'm thinking that an "error" like that in a software release gets someone fired...I've been doing this IT business applications gig since 1979 and have definitely seem peeps let go for less. Testing and Validation is a critical step before release...and numbers in retail software applications are closely checked.

If it was indeed an error then the site page should be shut down immediately. Why keep it up?

It is, maybe, maybe, a 30 second job to rename the file name and then we'd all get the famous "HTTP 404 PAGE NOT FOUND" error. The cleanest way would to simply remove the link (like it was never there). That might take an hour. But, I am guessing they contracted out the work...but the vendor should bring down the link immediately...then be fired.

Something smells fishy in Yonkers.

Oh, and yes Larry, I was "building" the fiji on the site today and the more I looked, I wasn't so sure. Maybe I will wait for the ram to come down or for the Jacklope.

It seems hard to believe that the VP of Marketing would take the time to address a knife forum and leave the website up and running with faulty pricing. Wouldn't he be addressing the website? At least disable it. I'm skeptical. Kill him.

wellll folks, i i jest called buck... security said to their knolage all the seen-your
folks left at about 5:30 and was sure none were there still by 6... PDT... so that means if it was him he must have posted form home... not at his office...
security said they would take a message to his office / with my home phone number on it and that this was in referance to a forum post with his name on it / and if he was there ask him to call me tonite and if he was not that likely he would return my call tomarow... heck if it is real Joe will likely chew on my hind parts... or i get a call from CJ ... i can hear it now "jest who did you think you were talking to!!!"
so i guess tomarow i may have to cancle my trip to post falls as "undiserable"....

I was just fixing to say basically the same thing Goose. When an IT error like this is found, someone best be burning some midnight oil to get it fixed.

32 years in IT, here and there was always an IMMEDIATE backup to a previous version when a screw up was found.

I agree,,,should have been fixed before any announcements.

sumtin just aint right in I DA HO.

Actually, they're not really "custom made"....just semi-custom.

And while it's true that some things will naturally increase in price, this does not explain Buck's current Custom Shoppe pricing scheme.

Right, which is why I put 'custom' and did not say "Custom Made Knife"

Some of the prices seem flawed in a inexplicable way, but the crux of the response is not some people letting Buck know their data entry person frigged up a couple obvious items. It has the tone of a lynch mob rioting due to an change in pricing overall.

.......
And Dave, I will not be at Post Falls...so he doesn't have to buy me a beer ;)

 :( :barf: :( :(:thumbdn:
shoooooot .... and i was realy hopeing ta see ya there!
wisky for my men and wisky for our ladys ,,,,
but would buy you a beer my self !
would ya come if i said i would not ware a kilt?;)

Speaking only for myself, I would've had no prob with a price increase. But not this percentage of one.

Several here did let Buck know there were concerns before most of this posting occurred...e-mails and phone calls...no repsonse. That "radio silence" is what added fuel to this fire...put me off anyway.

As for a "lynch mob". I don't need a mob.
Whirlded Peas...

for a long long long time Buck has used the word custom with their knives in ways that did not reflect a true custom which could be had from the custom shop which closed in 92.
custom ordered assumbily is close. i belive it was used because you could order the assumbily your way, and not in the standard configuration,,,

you are not clear on this if you are refering to the current response of a proclamed 'VP" posting here or the response to his reasining...
no one comes here makeing statements that dont add up and
expects every one to feel like mary poppens ...
weather he ment to or not...
he sounded and acted like a troll and every one responded to that...
i have sent word to the real Dave V's office... which is two things...
one a question of was it him that posted with an invation to call me
and if not an aleart that some one may have used his name and an invation to call me
so no call will reallllllly urk me very bad and like as not another call bothering the heck out of joe when he is haveing a rough time at the office...

realy if he had said he was going to post in the forum i belive Joe or CJ would have told him that we here are ...
well hard core knife nuts and all friends no mater what
and that some times we turn and chew on each other even ,,,
and under no missunderstanding that we dont know our knives..
or know public relations speek when we hear it...
Nothing here is politicly correct... and no words here are menced,,,
i might nots can speellls them but i dam well means them!
well i guess i wate to see if i did a good thing or
if i gots a lot of egg on my face and
a whole crow pie to eat all alone!

Good morning Vissy! I see that you are here viewing with us at 8:25 am (CST) or 6:25 am (Buck Time). How about an update this morning on the pricing policy, please? Thanks!!

Looks like ole Vissy will soon walk the plank. He is viewing this thread as i type.

Tar and feathers? You guys are killin me!:D
Dave is the real deal although you may have run him off! ;)
I guess I should have given him a list of names to "be warey" of here on the forum....but then again it would have been a long list wouldnt it?;)

Sorry about running him off Joe. And hopefully he understands the tar and feather jest.

Its just that most of what he said just didn't compute.

you have spoiled us with your soft smooth style of communicating.

And you would of had to given him the entire list :p

Well, I'll be hornswoggled!!!

You mean that guy was for real??

In that case the news should go up on a new thread so everybody gets the word.

Many have quit reading these other several morose and lugubrious threads so they won't even get the word.

We'll hold off on the tar and feathers until we see if this guy has got a good excuse for the turmoil caused.....

:D

So the prices previously posted on Buck's website are not correct?

Dang! And I already ordered the Basspro 154CM 110.

Oh well, it's still a great deal, and it can keep my Cabela's AG 110 company.

I've never posted in the BladeForums, so a quick intro. I'm David Visnack, the VP of Marketing at Buck Knives. I oversee all the Product, Marketing, E-commerce, and Warranty activity for Buck Knives.

After reading the threads associated with the Buck CKS it's clear that many of you are upset by the new pricing. This is understandable since the pricing has been set 2X higher on the website than what it should be. When we add product to our website we enter the prices at wholesale and the site automatically recalculates to retail pricing. The prices for handles and blades were entered at retail, so the site has automatically, albeit inaccurately, doubled the prices on the CKS. Typically we would have caught this error but our E-commerce group has been in transition and I neglected to check the site when the CKS went live. We are looking to correct this problem ASAP and I truly apologize for the inconvenience and the sticker shock. Our goal at Buck is not to create stratospheric pricing, but rather to deliver reliable value.

If you purchased a knife at 2x inflated pricing, a customer service representative will contact you personally to remedy the situation.

Best Regards,

David Visnack
VP of Marketing
Buck Knives Inc.

This happens on our computer everytime we enter a new customer....it's in the program .... if it is not caught before printing an invoice.....invoice gets torn up and proper charges get applied.
To rewrite the program...$6500.00....maybe more now,so I deal with it inhouse.

What the hell Rocky...you trip and your face land in a dictionary today? LOL. I gotta look those two words up.

Joe, I don't want to be on another list. Already on the Homeland list for association and the Secret Service list for a letter I sent to Clinton regarding military personnel benefit cutting...while not "threatening", I was indeed "peeved" for our troops.

Anyway, I would like to know why the site remains if it is wrong.:confused:
