It seems hard to believe that the VP of Marketing would take the time to address a knife forum and leave the website up and running with faulty pricing. Wouldn't he be addressing the website? At least disable it. I'm skeptical. Kill him.
Yeah Tony, Doc D, and Larry...something don't seem right about the whole thing.
OK, IF that post was from the young gun VP, then I applaud the honesty.
But I'm thinking that an "error" like that in a software release gets someone fired...I've been doing this IT business applications gig since 1979 and have definitely seem peeps let go for less. Testing and Validation is a critical step before release...and numbers in retail software applications are closely checked.
If it was indeed an error then the site page should be shut down immediately. Why keep it up?
It is, maybe, maybe, a 30 second job to rename the file name and then we'd all get the famous "HTTP 404 PAGE NOT FOUND" error. The cleanest way would to simply remove the link (like it was never there). That might take an hour. But, I am guessing they contracted out the work...but the vendor should bring down the link immediately...then be fired.
Something smells fishy in Yonkers.
.
Actually, they're not really "custom made"....just semi-custom.
And while it's true that some things will naturally increase in price, this does not explain Buck's current Custom Shoppe pricing scheme.
.......
And Dave, I will not be at Post Falls...so he doesn't have to buy me a beer![]()
Speaking only for myself, I would've had no prob with a price increase. But not this percentage of one.Right, which is why I put 'custom' and did not say "Custom Made Knife"
Some of the prices seem flawed in a inexplicable way, but the crux of the response is not some people letting Buck know their data entry person frigged up a couple obvious items. It has the tone of a lynch mob rioting due to an change in pricing overall.
for a long long long time Buck has used the word custom with their knives in ways that did not reflect a true custom which could be had from the custom shop which closed in 92.Right, which is why I put 'custom' and did not say "Custom Made Knife"

f
you are not clear on this if you are refering to the current response of a proclamed 'VP" posting here or the response to his reasoning...
Tar and feathers? You guys are killin me!
Dave is the real deal although you may have run him off!![]()
I guess I should have given him a list of names to "be warey" of here on the forum....but then again it would have been a long list wouldnt it?![]()
I've never posted in the BladeForums, so a quick intro. I'm David Visnack, the VP of Marketing at Buck Knives. I oversee all the Product, Marketing, E-commerce, and Warranty activity for Buck Knives.
After reading the threads associated with the Buck CKS it's clear that many of you are upset by the new pricing. This is understandable since the pricing has been set 2X higher on the website than what it should be. When we add product to our website we enter the prices at wholesale and the site automatically recalculates to retail pricing. The prices for handles and blades were entered at retail, so the site has automatically, albeit inaccurately, doubled the prices on the CKS. Typically we would have caught this error but our E-commerce group has been in transition and I neglected to check the site when the CKS went live. We are looking to correct this problem ASAP and I truly apologize for the inconvenience and the sticker shock. Our goal at Buck is not to create stratospheric pricing, but rather to deliver reliable value.
If you purchased a knife at 2x inflated pricing, a customer service representative will contact you personally to remedy the situation.
Best Regards,
David Visnack
VP of Marketing
Buck Knives Inc.
