security said they would take a message to his office / with my home phone number on it and that this was in referance to a forum post with his name on it / and if he was there ask him to call me tonite and if he was not that likely he would return my call tomarow... heck if it is real Joe will likely chew on my hind parts... or i get a call from CJ ... i can hear it now "jest who did you think you were talking to!!!"

And wouldn't you all think that such an annoucemnt on the fourm would be via a new thread rather than posting the same information in three other threads?? Trax, probably should report this to Sparky, so he track this guy down, don't you think? Geez, just way too much excitment for an old codger like me and the wife is giving me that come-hither look. Or not!!

Sue......you be careful!!

:D

I think those prices were too messed up for a simple 2x to take care of it.

Well, boys......Good night.

Been an interesting day......who knows what tomorrow might bring?

:)

To say that I'm very suspicious would be a huge understatement.

I'll believe it when I see Buck's website change....if I can ever actually see Buck's Custom Shoppe online that is!

...You're speaking for a whole lot of us Allen...

Think about it, when is the last time that anyone besides Joe or CJ came in here and made an announcement for Buck?

I don't see how the extra cost is justified....

Because it is 'Custom'.

Anyway
Food Prices have gone up an average of 40% in some items.
Fuel is up 100% in only a few years. Buck has to pay its employees, who also pay these increased prices for themselves to eat and get to work.

Even if Buck raised its prices 20% on a $100 knife, that $20 is the average cost of dining out ONCE. Skip one night out and there is the difference for a knife that will last you a lifetime, especially if you never cut anything with it and it stays in a case.

If you want to save money, buy a baseline knife or go with an partner knife (Cabelas AG or BPS). If you want a CUSTOM knife shop, pony up. It is all about how important things are.

Joe, thanks for your efforts here on the board on our behalf. My PERSONAL thanks to you and ENA (bring her back soon) for your resolution of my 802SS issue. Buck will continue to be first and foremost on my list and if the 'cost' of that increases a little bit to keep Buck up and running as a company striving to continue to be "Made in the USA" then so be it.

Jeez people. Prices go up.
Actually, they're not really "custom made"....just semi-custom.

And while it's true that some things will naturally increase in price, this does not explain Buck's current Custom Shoppe pricing scheme.

I've never posted in the BladeForums, so a quick intro. I'm David Visnack, the VP of Marketing at Buck Knives. I oversee all the Product, Marketing, E-commerce, and Warranty activity for Buck Knives.

After reading the threads associated with the Buck CKS it's clear that many of you are upset by the new pricing. This is understandable since the pricing has been set 2X higher on the website than what it should be. When we add product to our website we enter the prices at wholesale and the site automatically recalculates to retail pricing. The prices for handles and blades were entered at retail, so the site has automatically, albeit inaccurately, doubled the prices on the CKS. Typically we would have caught this error but our E-commerce group has been in transition and I neglected to check the site when the CKS went live. We are looking to correct this problem ASAP and I truly apologize for the inconvenience and the sticker shock. Our goal at Buck is not to create stratospheric pricing, but rather to deliver reliable value.

If you purchased a knife at 2x inflated pricing, a customer service representative will contact you personally to remedy the situation.

Best Regards,

David Visnack
VP of Marketing
Buck Knives Inc.

so if this is true a S30V with walnut should be $56.00 not the $112.00 that the site says now? does anyone remember what the price for this knife was before they changed the custom shop site?

I don't really understand what Visnack is meaning by 2x.

I recently paid $88 for a BG42, fiji handle, NS, FG and it came in a regular black leather sheath.

Same one now, but with S30V in lieu of BF42 is $122.

So a $34 increase.

I am sure there will be some clarification on this 2x stuff tomorrow.

...That 2X comment is really what has me on edge...I hope my "bad feeling about this" is wrong...I am a pessimist when it comes to sudden revelations like this...

The factory store had some walnut 110's on sale about a month ago (all gone now) for $40, but again that was a sale price. However, ss I undstand his post, he is stating that the posted prices were 2X (i.e., retail) the selling price (i.e., wholesale), and I think that is indeed true for Buck's sales to its distributors. Few distributors, however, actually sell the knives at the retail prices (because they are just too expensive), so most are heavily discounted; just check flea bay for some of this year's limited editions. I've even seen a few of this years leather handled 110's go for less than wholesale on flea bay recently. So that would then mean that the custom shop would sell to buyers at their wholesale prices? Ain't gonna happen. Perhaps a licensed distributor might purchase them at that price (now there's a thought :D). Just more suspicion to add to the whole scenario!
