Customer Service Resolved all issues on a 560!!

Guy's, as many of ya'll know I'm relatively new to Zero Tolerance and Kershaw. Dave gave me my first one, a 350. Since then I've gotten a,200, 301, 300, and the one I wanted most a 560. Well, after getting my 560 I noticed the sharp jimping, and fixed it myself. Then after a few day's I notice it has vertical blade play. It was slight, but noticeable to me. Then, while cutting a bunch of veggies I noticed the lock bar had moved all the way across the lock face of the blade. I mean all the way over. So, I emailed customer service and they advised to send it in. I sent in the 300 with it because it had developed vertical blade play, and lock rock real bad. I sent them in on the 19th of March. I got them back today, so turn around time was real good.

The 300 came back great, no problems. But, the problems come in when I checked out my 560. The blade play was still there. But, that wasn't all. The lock bar with a little pressure still moved all the way across the blades lock face. I thought well shucks, that ain't good. It ain't supposed to do that. But, then, the worst of it. I noticed the stabilizer disk was sunk more into the handle. I looked closer, and they had enlarged the hole it sits in. That ain't all. They didn't make it round!! It doesn't fit flush all the way around the disk! And, if that ain't enough they ENLARGED the cut between the lock bar and the top of the handle!!! WTH!!! YES, they did. IT IS VERY NOTICEABLE!! And, VERY irritating. To say I'm not happy is an UNDERSTATEMENT. How in hell could ZT customer service screw up such a nice knife??? I mean DANG. I'm scared to send it back. How much worse will they make it?

The Ti handle is so bad now it will have to be replaced. That's me talking as a lay person, and not knowing much about repairing knives. But, I doubt they can replace the metal they ground out, and off of the scale. It's ridiculous. I waited to post anything at all about the blade play and lock position until after I got the knife back. And, now the knife is REALLY screwed up. It's gonna take some REAL fixing to take care of THIS problem.

Here are pics of the lock up. I'm sorry my pics aren't the greatest. I did my best.

This one is normal lock up with no pressure to the side. It is much worse than when I sent it in. Lock up is way late.

And, here is the really horrible stuff. I couldn't believe they drilled out the hole for the stabilizer disk, and ground out the groove between the lock bar and the top of the handle. The hole isn't even matching the disk. If you look to the right side of the disk you will see the gap and know what I mean about the hole not match the edge of the disk. It's horrible. And, the gap looks much worse than when I sent it in. You could barely see the gap when I sent in the knife.

Guy's, I AM a big ZT fan. I DO LOVE their knives. But, this is one time Customer Service REALLY screwed the pooch. And, I am pretty po'd. I paid a lot of money for the 560, more than for any other knife I own, and more than most of them COMBINED. So, this is unacceptable.

The other possibility on the Ti scale is perhaps they replaced the one I had with a different one, and it ain't a good one. But, that's pure speculation on my part.

Get a hold of them again. They will make it right, they always do! I have never had a problem with their customer service.

I don't own any ZTs.. yet ;) but I do own Kershaw and they're excellent. They're also human and they handle a ton of knives so a mistake can happen.

Yea, I know their customer service is good guy's. It's supposed to be the best in the business. But, whoever worked on my 560 was a rank amateur. You can hardly tell from the pics, but if you look straight down into the long gap between the lock bar and handle it's not even from the stabilizer disc to the end of the lock bar. It actually gets wider toward the end of the lock bar. It's pitiful. And, I have already sent an email to Brittany Shanafelt, Warranty Department Supervisor for ZT. She is the one I have been emailing about my trouble with the 560 from the beginning. I'm sure she'll advise to send it in. But, I'm really upset about this one. It's much worse than when I sent the knife in. And, how will they fix the Ti scale? You can't add metal to it. They will probably have to replace it. I just hate having to send in my knife again. But, it's gotta be done I guess. Gosh I hate this.

I forgot to add that I can see where they ground down the gap on the lock bar side. It's nice and shiny where the grinding was done. Compared to the rest of the Ti it's real noticeable.

Damn dude, I feel your pain. I got my tilt and chive back from CS and both have vertical play that wasn't there before. I only asked them to sharpen the tilt (just like what happened with my ti mil lol) and it came back with noticeable lock rock. The chive came back with a lock bar like yours; it is easily pushed to the opposite scale and has massive play. I'll be sending it in once again and I'll be sure to ask them to be VERY careful with the tilt.... Hope it works out for both of us.

Again, I feel your pain bro.. The worst part is sending it in not sure if it's going to come back worse and that it'll take 2-4 weeks to get it back... That said, I've never had a problem with Kershaw CS (best in the business IMO) and expect them to be able to fix it. You can probably just ask for them to replace your 0560.

Yowza...I hope this isnt the outcome of my 561 that they currently have for side to side play. I really like the thinner gapped lockbar cutout

Why in the world they opened up the gap on mine I have no idea. And, it's not even at all either. It gets wider on the lock bar end of it. It's just crazy. I don't understand how something like this could have left the shop.

Apparently there's a newer cut on the lockbar or something..I'm really hoping they don't switch mine out..that wide of a gap looks off to me

mley1, sorry about your knife, I'm sure you'll get it back in a better state should you decide to let us work on it again.

As to the rest of you, I'm sure your knives will be fine as well. If not, I'm sure we'll read about all about it.

Sorry again for the issues.

The gap isn't the only problem on mine. The hole where the lock bar stabilizer disc goes is too big, and disc is sunken more into the scale, presumably to hold the lock bar farther over. It's just pitiful man. I am not a happy camper and get more mad every time I look at the thing.

Thanks Thomas. I will be sending it back in. It is unacceptable with the Ti scale like it is. There is no way on this earth I'll accept it like that with the huge gap and the too large disc hole that's not centered. Not to mention the late lock up, with a lock bar that goes all the way across the lock face. I mean, come on. It should have never left customer service that way. It was in much BETTER shape when I sent it in.

I'm sorry Thomas. Please forgive me. I know you guy's will fix it up right. I'm just a bit upset right now. I was expecting to take it out of the box all fixed up. My bubble just burst. I'm sorry man. I know it's not your fault.

I have total faith in Kershaw's CS. I agree, it shouldn't have left like that, but they'll be sure to fix you up. Just be sure to include a note stating exactly what you want them to do for you.

How much did you pay for that knife anyway, if you don't mind me asking? Was it from a store or a private seller?

I paid 280.00 delivered from an online store. I just got lucky and found them in stock. Not two minutes after I ordered mine they were out of stock again.

That is a bummer mley. As Thomas said, they'll make it right.

Marty,

I am sorry to hear about the issues with your 0560. I will make sure I look at this knife personally, and I'll make sure it's right before it goes back to you. I'm sending a PM your way.

Just so you're aware, it looks like CS replaced the entire titanium handle scale, and the part they had was one of the earlier style handles with the machined lockbar cutout - that's why it looked larger to you. Have no fear, we will make sure these issues are resolved.

- Jim
