Customized Survive! Knives

Thanks, guys. Yes, I do take limited orders. I do this as a hobby to pay for my knife addiction.

You can see my work on instagram at @inrangedesign

I am going to do some sets to sell... seems like there is some interest. I'll have some available in a month or so.

Finally finished up some handles for my knives. I started with the 4.7 and was going to do a matched set of 1911 grips (and I will get to that, too) but opted to do the matching handles for my 5.1.

More pictures over on the FB fan page...

Wow, really awesome. I can definitely see a set of these with a Sagewood leather sheath in my future. I love wood and leather. I can only imagine this would more than pay for your knife hobby. Could be a small home business for sure.

The small home business is an interesting thought. I do these and 1911 grips, which is really saturated with high quality craftsmen making exceptionally beautiful grips. I grew up wood working (since age 10, family business), so I honestly just love the time in the shop making things out of wood. It's a hobby, but I think I've found a niche. I came across S!K looking for the perfect blade to do custom handles for - the 1911 of the knife world - to complement the grip making I do. I also make belt buckles to match. So, while I don't do a lot of them, I find the people who do ask for my work "get it" and really appreciate the beauty of wood and having a matched set. I love getting these to people who really appreciate them.

Then I got hooked on these knives, like everyone else!

I think you could take it as far as you want. I don't know of anyone else doing wood grips for GSO's!

The 4.7 looks particularly nice with the blade color! Does inserting and removing the knife from the sheath wear the wood out and make it look bad, or does it hold up fairly well?

Seems to be holding up, khukoo. I suspect the kydex will rub on it eventually (hasn't yet), but mine does the micarta handles as well. I'm guessing guys that go this route will upgrade to leather too.

So could you do 1911 grips in micarta or g10 that would match the scales on the S!Ks? I've seen Busse do runs of these and thought it would be pretty cool to have matching grips on knife and pistol. Of course I would need to buy a 1911, but I've been wanting to do that for awhile :)

Nah, I don't do any work in micarta or g10. A little carbon fiber, but pretty much just wood.

Sounds very cool. I'm gonna PM you shortly.

Great. PM's to me sometimes get hung up... feel free to use inrangedesign@gmail if you like.

All,
It was not my intent to take over this thread for my own personal marketing. I really just wanted to show some things that I hope you guys will appreciate. When I was asked if I take orders, I didn't realize the direction this would go. I sincerely like hanging out here on this forum, tremendously appreciate the S!K knives, and do not at all want to wear out my welcome. Thanks everyone for the interest and kind words! If anyone is put off by this, I apologize. If there is any other interest, please use the email above.

I would love for others to post up their work or what they've had done. Let's see 'em!

All,

TR, don't worry so much!! I'm glad you posted, and frankly if you get some orders, we will have more pictures! When I started this thread, I knew through our discussions you'd have a lot to offer! I just spent a ton on non knife related purchases or I'd be right in it with an order of my own!

Hey TR! Awesome work on your scales! Yu could definitley make some cash selling those. Just so you dont get beat up by the moderators, upgrade to a makers membership or use FB to sell. Ide hate to see them come after you.

Redwood22 - can you salvage the sheath or loosen it up somehow? Looks like a nice, simple design that will work well.

Riz! - yes, I agree. I was asked if I was going to be selling, so responding to the direct question was my only intent. Definitely don't want to run out of bounds. Appreciate the caution.

Sorry if I contributed there fellas. Those scales are so nice I knew TR was going to get hit up for them, but probably shouldn't have voiced it. Apologies.

Redwood, you're just handier than a pocket on a shirt! I'll bet it's not long before you get the fit just right.

Hey TR. This is a mod thread. You do mods. Brilliantly I may add. Don't think you have taken over bud. Sheeeeet Stimpy, keep em comin', it's only on page two. Loving this so far, but I'm also waiting for someone to grind on their S! Come on! I'm sure it's not only the Beckerheads that grind on their steel. Admittedly, it's hard to begin messing with a shape that's basically perfect from the start but that said, warm up those 2x72's fellas! I wanna see some sparks flyin'!
