Cut the heck out of my thumb with a CS Pocket Bushman - wish me luck Monday - Surgery

I hope your surgery and rehab goes well! I had surgery on my thumb 12/22 to repair the basal joint - it was worn out. I'm not looking forward to rehab!

Paul

Rehab is cool. The injury is over, the surgery is over, the pain is down to a dull, nagging ache. :)

I don't know if it is cool. (3 years of it twice a week for me took away too much knife bucks $.)
(At least it worked :D.)

I've had many myself, though none so bad. i have a "policy" that i use to close that thing (Pocket Bushman). I hold the knife in my right hand, pivot pointing away from me and obviously blade up. i then pull the cord with my left hand and use some inanimant object to push the blade half way closed, then finish safely with the standard close. Works great and i've never been bit.

hope you heal fast! ----- Eric

Smoke up for your speedy recovery. I was bitten on my little finger in 2001 by a serrated cold steel. I had a surgery, but it didn't take. I know how a little finger that will bend in, but cannot straighten out beyond around 45 degrees. Take it easy with the recovery.

Sorry to hear that I hope you recover fast. Makes me think I should take more care when closing mine.

Hope all goes well with your surgery! Smoke and prayers inbound from MD. Let us know.

i was doing some work (electrical ) in a chicken processing plant several yrs. ago and ALL of their employees had to wear those anti-cut gloves. do any of you makers wear em for final buffing, sharpening,... just curious. paul

Scotch, I see you are also in Georgia. Who is doing the surgery and therapy?
I had to have my left index finger reattached and dealt with some excellent physicians.
The tendon is not the problem, it is not uncommon to retain 90%+ use of the finger after therapy and time to heal, it is the nerves that can take forever.

I wish you the best of luck getting through this.

Thanks Everyone! I will keep you up to date.

I don't have the paperwork with me now, but the doctor is really nice and works with the Braves. All he does is hands.

How about a two-step lock? Pull the lock back to release the tang and it clicks into place in a lock safety allowing the blade to close. When the blade closes, it releases that secondary lock safety.

Yeah, I can see that. A simple flat, like I've seen on some slip-joints, would be an inexpensive feature to add and would likely solve the issue.

I do note that as the Pocket Bushman is used, the spring force lessons a bit (or maybe my hands are simply stronger now - been using them CoC hand grippers).

Atlanta Sports Medicine gets all the credit for my bionic finger (should be with what it cost). The knuckle itself had to be rebuilt as much of it was destroyed. Looks funny now but works. Hope you get the same physical therapist as me. She was drop dead gorgeous but boy did she know how to inflict pain LOL.

Again, good luck.

Ouch, I ran my knife through my finger a while back. Got lucky, a lump and little numbness is all that I got left. Best of luck and I hope you heal quickly.

I hope all goes well. My local sporting store lets you handle all their knives and the folding Bushman is the only knife there that has a large caution sign warning you of the dangers of closing it. Cold Steel should just stick to more traditional folders.:grumpy:

Sounds like a stupid lock release system.Kinda makes me want one.:D Best of luck on the surgery.I work on knives and get cut almost daily.Nothing bad yet.
