Cutting down trees with a Mora

Hello IA Woodsman, I once was a regular here at WSS, and I have slowed down in posting here for what ever reason. Your video is an example of why I visit this site and post here. I actually enjoy to watch, discuss, learn, and share actuall wilderness skills on a wilderness survival forum. I enjoyed your video and whether or not I agree with what ever technique is being used, I still appreciate the effort and your willingness to share. Kemsat Survival made a comment which gave his point of view with out coming off rude. He gave his reason for why he didn't like the technique which I feel is a constructive criticism and welcome in any thread. Some others are just being rude and have no business posting IMO.
However I feel you handled yourself well and look forward to more of your posts in the future.

Best regards,

Tony

I think I see where somebody might think I was being rude...

"It's nothing special".

That was an asshole-ish way to put what I was thinking.

It's been a bad week or two, kids...sorry...a lot of things are weighing pretty heavily on me right now...

So I appologize if I came off that way.

I enjoyed the video (even the one of you whacking away at your Mora), and look forward to more. I did not mean to discourage or disparage, and sometimes my constructive criticism comes off as prickish mouthiness.

Forgive me for that. I too often say what I'm thinking in a less-than-tactful way.

It was good stuff. Now get your ass back in the woods.

Did you read what I wrote.

I used you as an example of "HOW TO BE CONSTRUCTIVE"

I said you were NOT rude.....

No harm no foul, I have pretty thick skin. I hope your week gets better. My ass is in the wood whenever I can.

I said you were NOT rude.....

I did, and I thank you very much for that (I'm hardly ever a positive example!).

But I re-read what I wrote and felt a prickly tone from it...so I wanted to clarify.

I didn't like that I said it was nothing special. It seemed like I was belittling someone's skill level and that's not something that I do--or I try to avoid doing so, unless somebody just pisses in my Cheerios.

Every learned skill is a special one.

So I felt I owed an appology to everyone--especially the OP-- for seeming like I was carrying around a superiority complex of some kind.

the linden branch he cuts through is about as tough as wet spaghetti
if the tree was hickory ,now that is wood
buzz

I would like to apologize to the OP as well if I came across as rude or dismissive. That was not my intention at all- I know my wording reads that way sometimes. I would feel terrible if my natural tendency to sound like a jerk would discourage anyone who is making valuable contributions.

I've done a similar technique using maple and oak if you stress the fibers under tension they are primed to be cut....I believe kevin Estella also posted an article or video on this a while back as well.

Thank you, not a problem.

South West

I spent most of this past summer on the west coast of Iowa... doing field work on the Big Sioux, Little Sioux, Floyd, & Boyer. The Loess Hills are a really beautiful part of the state. I actually drove right past Loess Hills State Park a couple of times & thought how great it would be to camp there.

Great vid's. Thanks for sharing.

I lived in Iowa for 8 years- 4 in Storm Lake and 4 in Iowa City. I loved it- lots of awesome outdoorsy stuff to do there- amazing fishing! I wish I could have stayed.

It seems alot of folks didn't know too much about this technique and Woodsman's (and Riley's, if I remember correctly) video brought to life what most only read about. If downplaying someone else's attempt at spreading some sound knowledge floats yer boat, please drift downstream. I'm seeing a few comments here that are just rude... Points can be made without arrogance. If you are familiar with this technique, I think thats great... we need folks like you to support not debase this kind of thing.

Exactly. It's more than likely anything posted here has been seen before by someone, no one is reinventing the wheel. I was under the impression this forum was to share skills, which is exactly what the OP was doing. Try to remember just because it is old hat to you, it is brand new to some one else. Instead of belittling a contribution, how about making one?

Very well said, Fishshooter.
