Cutting Zip Ties...ummmhmmm......

My wave's wire cutters cuts zip ties very easily, if it is tied very tightly, I'd use scissors on a SAK or multi tool.

I like to pinch them with my Leatherman, they seem to break pretty easy after that.
Otherwise slipping the blade underneath isn't a horrible idea.

I don't get it  Just slide the tip under the tie with the edge facing away from the bundled material and slice it. A wharnie blade works perfectly but any shape profile that is sharp will do the trick. With snips it is easy to nick the underlying material.

I'll use a knife to cut the tail off a ziptie, just pull on the tail and slice it off clean, works great with my SnG. Usually use diagonal cutters (some in the biz call em dykes) when removing offending ties.

if you need to cut zip ties just buy a cheap 5 dollar utility knife from home depot with the replaceable blade.

Careful doing this... I had a tip break on me doing something similar.

I agree that snips are better at cutting zip ties, but I don't carry snips in my pocket. When I don't have snips handy, my pocket knife works a lot better than my teeth.

I v seen many posts here on people saying how good their knives are for cutting zip ties/cable ties/tie wraps ect....

Actually, a fully serrated Spyderco Endura doesn't do too bad in sawing through zip-ties...Even those 1/4" monster ones...But a plain blade...Forget it.

The pen blade on my Old Timer 33OT Middleman jack is dandy for cutting zip tips. The small, thin blade usually fits in between the tie and whatever it's cinched against. Then, forget "sawing," all it takes is a little levering and the edge slices right through the zip tie.

I do not own a pair of snips. Serrated edges do work better on thicker zip ties, but a plain edge can also get the job done with some effort.

This.

I'm not a fan of serrations but this is one of the few things that they really excel at.

I must be doing it wrong. I had to use my knife today to cut a few zip ties that were holding some protective plastic on some pipe flanges. My plain edge cut them smoothly and I didn't cut myself or damage my blade. I will try again tomorrow.

Diaganal cutters work best, but I don't carry them around in my pocket. Even the smaller tie-wraps pose a problem when drawn too tight.

Save yourself a lot of trouble cutting zip ties... use a set of toenail clippers. Folds up small and thin, lets you cut up close.

I have a pretty bad scar on my hand for that exact same reason.
damn zip ties.
damn razor sharp opinel... it bit me good.
