CV Swayback Jack Goodness!

Sorry, but 3-1/4" is just too small for my liking. Does my 3-5/8" CV Texas Jack qualify me for the lounge? I sure hope so.

If Case would make that swayback on a 3-3/4" frame (give or take and eighth), with Wharnie main and pen or small clip as secondary blade in CV, I'd probably own every handle material they made it in. Just my preference for slightly larger knives.

The new TB swayback is based on an older Case pattern - the 6217 - which was the same style but a hefty 3-3/4" closed length. This pattern was made in CV and was discontinued in 1978, so you would have to locate an older one.

Apologies extended didn't mean to break any rules.

No rules broken by you, my friend. You're certainly allowed to ask for recommendations. It's just better if commercial endorsements are sent to you privately rather than use this particular sub-forum for vendor recommendations.

We also encourage folks to use the "Feedback" section of the site to provide info (good or bad) so that others may put that information to good use themselves.

I love my Swayback Jack in Chest & CV. It rides well and cuts good to ! I
like SWB Jent to, The Pocket Worn Red bone & SS is pretty nice to. They're
both in my EDC rotation.

Man, I've been hankering for a classic slipjoint or three lately, as I pretty much only carry "tacticals" as of late, but think I can do everything i need to with a traditional. The swayback design instantly grabbed my attention. I also feel that traditionals should be high carbon, and not really "stainless", but I am wondering how Case's SS is? I was pretty wary when one site called it "surgical steel" as often that can be quite cheap and poor.

I would prefer CV, and would probably go with my gut on it, just kind of wondering. Plus I Like the look of some of the SS handle materials a bit better, but the blade is the overall deal breaker for me.

If you prefer CV steel, there's actually some decent choices these days. See this link. Also, Case just announced a line of Sambar stag cv knives. Search Google for "case knife sambar stag cv."

Thanks, I was talking more specifically about the Swayback jack, though. And according to that link they're only available in the chestnut bone with CV Blade...

I could definitely see some other models in my future with other handles, though.

Hrm, a certain center of knives that I normally deal with online doesn't have the CV ones in stock it appears. Anyone able to message me with a reputable dealer with some in stock? I got the itch!

I really like the sway back jack and after seeing it in a local case dealers store I'm saving up to get one, though as mentioned by someone else I would love if they came out with a larger size one in cv. They have one tiny trapper model that has a wharncliffe blade instead of the spey, if only it was in cv instead of stainless, not that I don't like their stainless but it be perfect in cv.

Thanks for the help guys. Now for a question.

Is the swayback pattern a traditional pattern? Or is it relatively newer? Just seems I've never seen any "old" swaybacks in any of the threads on here.

If you check out this thread (fair warning it takes a while to load) of old knife catalogs you will see that it is patterned on some Sheffield knives from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

thanks. Funny, I just came across a swayback type pattern in the "Old Knives" picture thread on page 95 a short while after I posted that :p

Gorgeous knife. I'm just hoping that Case will one day release a CV Swayback Gent (please, please, please), since I really find the single blade version much more appealing.

I feel the same way, though I've never really handled one, so hard to say my preference.

Aesthetically at least, I like the single blade swaybacks.

I have a couple of swaybacks, and yes, they are nice. However, my Case/ Tony Bose Norfolk just arrived this afternoon, and I have to say- it blows the swaybacks away. It's like a super swayback. It has the same general size and weight, and the same basic design for the master blade- but the F&F is light-years better. If you like the swayback, and you have a chunk of money burning a hole in your pocket- the Norfolk is one heck of a little knife. Expensive, yes! But sublime.

Any chance to practice a bit o' knife photography... :D
