That old swayback is fabulous Rick. What is the brand on it?

Thanks, Tony. It's an Ulster Knife Co., N.Y.

Unfortunately, it was cleaned by Herb Aycock a few years before I bought it, but the blades are still pretty full.

Rick,

Great picture and the Ulster is a jaw dropper.

Gorgeous knife. I'm just hoping that Case will one day release a CV Swayback Gent (please, please, please), since I really find the single blade version much more appealing.

I am generally fond of single blades in this style knife also but I have found the small pen blade terrific on the job. I do a lot of electrical/fiber optic wiring and code calls for wax string tie downs. The little blade is the perfect size, but the even better part is that it leaves the larger blade gunk free for lunch!

Thanks, guys. I bought that little Ulster over ten years ago, and I'm still kicking myself to this day because the dealer had two of 'em for $150 each in the same condition with pretty much identical bone, and I only bought the one. :foot:

Oh well. As my wife says - "There will always be another knife."

Cleaned or not, it's a knife all of us would like to have:thumbup:

That shape, longpulls and sublime bone make a highly desirable knife!

Time for a model revival:D

Thanks for the pictures of the oldy, looks nice.

I absolutely love this little knife. Has a more solid feel in hand and pocket than I imagined, and it came very sharp, wasn't expecting that.

Probably not going to carry it at work any more, though. I normally have a folder with a clip, having this one down at the bottom of my pocket it got a lot of grit in it... blew it out, re oiled it and put it in my pack :P Gonna see if I can score some basswood today and break her in the right way.

Also, never had a non stainless steel with a mirror finish. I love the naturally forming patina you get on something like an Opinel. On this, after the first few bits of fruit it gives it a bit "dirtier" looking patina, because it contrasts with the mirror polish so much. Should even out with more use and look better, and I'm not really worried about it, just an observation :D

I posted this a good while back, but might as well post it again.

The grinds on these are very good, and the overall F@F is better than I've seen on a standard Case in years. Also one of the best patterns they've ever made IMO.

I just ordered a swayback in cv for everyday carry.I cant wait to put it to good use.great pictures guys.

That Ulster is a beauty, absolutley love the long pull and gorgeous bone!

How do you guys hold those swaybacks while you're using them? It looks like it's designed to be held edge up.

Screw it! I'm going to sell enough crap on eBay that I can get a SJ! I'm convinced!
