Title tells most of the story. I came back from Norway having left my D2 steel knife in my bag. Coming back home, the knife was incredibly rusty, more then just a few spots here and there. This bothers me so much since the day before i removed some rusty spots and oiled the knife.

Does anyone have recommendations on a folder that's 50 - 60euro - NL? preferrably with a blade under 3 inches, and steel that doesn't rust easily. Thanks!

What knife is this? I have knives in D2 and while it's not a stainless steel, I've never seen them rust as easily as you describe.
You're saying that you cleaned and oiled the knife, and the next day it was "incredibly rusty"? After sitting in a bag?
Got any photos?

Some photos.

Just to clarify, i'm fine with having to take care of my knife every week / every time using it, but i'm also not really up to seeing it rust this fast

Something isn't right on that knife. I've had d2 in folders for years and never seen it get like that even after neglect. That's like over night in the ocean plus some.

I'd question the actual steel on it.

Buy a better knife from a more reputable company would be my suggestion.

QSP is a pretty reputable brand these days, but since it is Chinese I would definitely only buy QSP from a retailer you trust as that could be a clone/copy.

If not, I'd look for something from Spyderco I think the VG-10 steel knives have gone down in price quite a bit you might be able to snag one. Anything in 14c28n is decent along with Civivi and their Nitro-V knives they are not 100% corrosion resistant but they are better than D2.

That's not typical of D2, Chinese or not.
I have a TwoSun Tusk in D2 whose blade I left in vinegar for 6 hours and it only got slightly darker. No rust.

I would suspect the steel too.
I have Ontario RAT 1&2's in D2 and they've never rusted, even without the careful maintenance you're describing. I've carried them in my pocket during the summer with no problems at all.
Any chance that was exposed to some sort of acidic substance or salt water?

I understand. Welcome aboard.

Look for knife steels using the search function on BF for much help.

I second this. I've probably had well over 10 QSP's and their quality has always been on point. Somethings off with this one, idk..

Odd that its mostly the spine and flipper tab thats corroded. Those are the parts of the blade exposed when the blade is closed. It looks almost like it was exposed to something that caused the blade to rust, with the handles protecting part of the blade. It looks quite similar to a vintage slipjoint with blade damage from celluoid outgassing. What else was in the bag with the knife?

An Ontario RAT 1 or RAT 2 in AUS 8 might fit the bill. You could also go with the Cold Steel AirLite in AUS 10. The Spyderco Delica in VG10 is another great choice.
aus 8 will rust spot quickly too. based on ops pics, he needs a more corrosion resistance stainless than aus8......

You could buy a knife like the Spyderco Salt. They come in metals that aren't steel but rather dendritic cobalt, which cannot rust. I have a knife in Stellite 6K, which is one of those metals. I forget the non-rust knives from Spyderco, but they have some. Or search on dendritic cobalt & knives.

Cold Steel Pro Lite.

Incredible quality for the price (around 70€ on Lamnia, can be found cheaper)
