D2 Spyderco ?

D2 or not, I think a Military with a black blade and OD handles would be wildly popular.

"Black blades" - Yuck :barf: :(
There is nothing I dislike more on a knife than a black blade.

I know Benchmade justify black blades on their high carbon blades like D2 and M2 because they worry about people not giving them enough care to avoid rust. However I would say that those people who would be most interested in a sprint run D2 Spyderco (us here) are more than capable of looking after such a knife.

Have you seen the DLC blades,IMO they look much better than the flat dark black. The DLC is more of a very dark grey.

Sal,

I've been a fan of D2 for a long time and of Spyderco knives as well. I currently have seven knives in my EDC rotation and four of them are Spyderco knives. Two of them are Natives. It seems that everytime a new knife loses it's luster I go back to my first Native (GIN 1 steel / combo edge). My Native III just doesn't have the smooth opening action of the original even though it holds a better edge. I would definately buy a D2 Native, can't have too much of a good thing! :)

Great input, thanx much. anybody feel like tallying the requests to see if there is a predominant suggestion?

Looks to be for the Military with a differant color scale.

I was for D2 when the question was D2, or VG-10 for the grey Calypso Jr. ltwts, but running it alongside S30V, when you could just use that (and are already using it) seems like a total waste of time.
You mentioned some time ago that the Dragonfly was due for an upgrade. S30V would be an upgrade. A laser engraved spider on the SS scales would be pretty slick, too...
Figured I'd throw that in while I was thinking about it;)

Hi Owen. An S30V Daragonfly would be difficult and considerably more expensive. The S30V would have to be shipped to Seki. Add to that the extra processing costs and you have a very expensive model.

If I were to do a powdered metal Dragonfly or any other Seki made pieces, I would opt for a ZDP-189 laminate.

sal, thanks for asking our opinions. you could count me in for a military, chinook, para mili, or calypso jr.(g10), dlc would also be very nice on the above listed. aloha

Sorry, was in my little S30V mode, and my fingers typed S30V, when I was thinking VG-10 as a D'fly upgrade :o

my old g2 dragonfly has been the most reliable and abuse-tolerant locking folder i have ever seen. i welcome any improvisation on the line, and will certainly be interested, though the original simply will not die, so it's hard for me to complain about it.

D2 Military would be nice.I'm sure that i'll buy it ...but not in green OD handle...brrrr

I've got a GIN-1 Police, ATS-34 Wegner, S30V Mili and VG-10 Calypso Jr. I guess a D2 blade would add to the great variety, but I'm thinking that the S30V and VG-10 used by Spyderco these days is just so darn good, what does D2 really bring to the table as an improvement to those? It's not as rust resistent, I doubt the edge retention is any better. Is it mainly to feed the variety craving?

I know with S30V out there making a knife in D2 may seem like a step backwards but one thing I've always admired about D2 is that I feel it's one of the best steels in regards to holding and edge and being easy to sharpen or touch up quickly. It takes me longer to touch up my knives with a VG10 or S30V blades than it does for my knife with a D2 blade. Don't get me wrong I've become a fan of S30V but D2 will always be a great blade steel in my book. Plus one symptom of being a knifeknut is even if you found the perfect knife, would you never buy another knife? I think not, variety is the spice of life.

I would love to see a Calypso Jr. or Native III, or Native Chief with Micarta or G-10 handles. No black blades please.

Para-Military with OD/Grey/ForrestGreen G-10 scales and black coated (DLC) CE combo blade (D2 or S30V)

If D2 sharpens up easier and has comparable edge retention, I'd like to get one and try it if Sal does a limited run. I'll vote paramili cause I haven't got one of those yet, but I'll get whatever's made.

Did I mention that I would take an OD Green Mili with black D2 blade? ;) :p

Just checking!

:D :D :D I second that !

Btw, is the para-military legal to carry in Holland considering its blade lenght ?
I don't mean to be off topic, I'm just curious. We can go on on that by email...

I was stupid enough to think the Dodo and the Lil Temp S30V I received last week would set me up for some time. But I think I won't be able to resist such a paramilie...
