Dagger fans?

officers a Gerber Mark I with his/her initials engraved. When I left I got mine, it came with the black nylon sheath. I have an older Mark I with a leather sheath my family gave me. Both have black grips and SS blades. The Mark I is an ideal boot knife that can be carried in other ways as well. Its little brother was the Guardian. I've got one, camo nylon sheath and camo grip, black blade, I carry in the small of my back, diagonally, clipped inside my pants. It used to be very popular with certain USAF SPs and others carried like that. Very handy. It's OK combat boots as well.

Here's one of my Gerbers-

I have both and wasn't sure which was which, thanks for pointing that out. Now I have to change the labels on my web site. Here's my other one, as you can see I broke the tip off, I did it back in the 80s before they were collector items. A few months ago I sent it into Gerber and asked them to try to fix it, they reshaped it and resharpened it for free!

I believe that one is actually known as the "Command 2". You can tell by the partial serrations instead of a full double edge. I used to have a command 1 and it was a great knife. I like those sheathes on the smaller versions too. Surprisingly, I pretty sure they are not full tang though.

I don't collect daggers, I collect Stag.
Now it just so happens that I have stumbled across some daggers amongst my stag. ;)

Yes the 530 is very nice, I saw one for the first time a few weeks ago, definitely smaller than I thought it would be from pictures. But I mean that in a good way... very slim and compact.

Here's a link for a picture...

JPD1998,

It is indeed a small, lightweight folder. It's perfect for disappearing in my pocket, and the action is very quick.

The 530 is not a heavy-duty folder, as it has only partial metal liners. But for light-duty applications where quick and accurate cuts are desired, this knife is hard to beat. I removed the clip further reducing the knife's profile. The clipless 530 weighs in at a mere 47 grams. As a comparison, the Spyderco Delica (with clip) weighs in at 56 grams. (Both weighed on my lab scale -- may not reflect weights provided in manufacturer's catalogs.)

The 175 is great. i bought one outright for SD. simple, effective, portable, with a kydex multi-point sheath. I wrapped the entire handle in 550 and added a tek-lok to the sheath configured for horizontal carry. improved ergonmics and instant back-up. one could do a lot worse. definitely not one for peeling apples with and scaring the sheeple.

Other than the 175, though, I only have two other fixed blades that fit the bill. Since I'm a bit newer, my tastes aren't with the more historical blades people have been speaking of here, so please excuse me. I have to admit though that I've always been partial to a double edged style. One blade is the discontinued SOG desert dagger, with a ballistic nylon sheath rather than the newer kydex. My second fixed is a Chris Reeves 7.5" kathathu. Seems strange to make a triple ground dagger into a survival knife when you think of it, but it works. beefy too. Needless to say, I'd hate to be on the receiving end of either the SOG or the CR.

Thanks, I always thought it was a MK, at least now I have my Gerbers properly labeled :o

Phil-What is that Kershaw dagger? I have never seen one of those before.

hi
my personal favorite at a low budget would be the peter bauchop warlock, witch and also the alleycat knives.

Not exactly a dagger, but the SOG Pentagon Elite II is the folder I carry when I can't carry a fixed blade.

glocker is your G19 a chrome slide or is that the reflection?????

gah i love this thread.. great photos men!

i love the 175 toast... IMO, its a great sd last ditch backup!!!

Toast, did you have any blade scratches from the kydex sheath? i had to send me off back to benchmade.. they are sending me a brand new one.. great CS from benchmade!!!! but i am looking for a custom sheath though because i am sick of my favorite knife getting scratched by that damned sheath!!!! i am going to NGK tomorrow to get another one and the benchmade activator with cpms30v!!!! got 2 knives i will have tomorrow night!! cant wait!

reconseed,
the contact from the sheath on the blade is fine for me. I do see where the kydex mars the coating though. it's basically cosmetic and i don't worry about it since it's not metal on metal or another truly abrasive surface. I think if you're in an "in use" situation, scuffing from the sheath is the 2nd to last thing you're thinking about at that time. Besides, scars add character.

Thanks for passing on the customer srv notice on benchmade. That's pretty cool,. never a bad thing to mention about on the forums.

Also, gratz on your new additions. it's always good to add to the collection.

roger that toast.. i guess yuo are correct as far as it being a cosmetic flaw but i just hate the fact that its like that man... the 175 is my favorite knife for SD so i want it to be perfect, but then again, nothing is perfect right... as long as the scuffing doesnt hurt the actual 175, then i am fine i guess.. i still sent mine off to get a new one though... ;)
