Dagger...WIP

Now that the handle is roughly shaped we can move on to the really fun part...carving:cool:

Carving?!

Talk about pulling out ALL the stops.

Yup...full detail feather carving. The guard and pommel are damascus too, and the chevron spacer is stainless to add a little sparkle;). Should also be some carving on the quillions.

And the feathers continue to sprout;) The idea when finished is to give the impression of two wings wrapped around the handle.

'Angel of Death'

Everything is great… but something disturbs me right here. Sorry.

There may be an interruption of the flow. The wide blade and the bulge in the handle next the guard are connected by a short and thin ricasso which becomes the focal point interrupting the flow. It is of course something in the eye of the beholder, but i understand M.K.'s comment.

Very nice work Ben.

M.K., out of curiosity, what is it that is bothering you about the ricasso area?

Chris
I am sure this place is strong enough. What disturbs me is from a purely aesthetic nature. For me, something is missing and tears connection between the blade and the handle.
I think useful approach is to point out the things with which we disagree on one or another reason. The author may not agree, but is it possible to help him in any of his subsequent works. For me this is the way to grow. Otherwise, without doubt more pleasant is to hear only good things about your "children".

It's a very nice knife, but I have to agree with M.K. The problem may be that the front of the guard is shaped so well to the curves of the blade shoulders that, to me, the thin ricasso makes it look like the guard is not seated all of the way down. But what the heck do I know...

Something like this seems more pleasing to my eye. (Please disregard the quick and sloppy Photoshopping.)
