Let me start off by saying this:

If you hate/dislike daggers and/or spear-point's, this is not the thread for you. So please, add pics, information, personal experience, as you see fit, but trollers save yourself the time - we all know how great drop-points are. We all know that for many reasons, spear-points aren't all-too practical, and we all know the blade itself might not be as strong as whatever brick of a folder you have in your pocket - This thread is here simply for people who LIKE daggers & spear-points, and who might want to share theirs. It's simple, don't be a deuche.

With that being said, I recently picked up a Benchmade 176 SOCP Dagger, and a BM 530 (my new favorite EDC, and patrol pocket knife), and I have to say, I'm really liking these designs - for multiple reasons:

Benchmade 530 http://www.benchmade.com/products/530

- The slim blade width allows for s-c-a-r-y sharp slicing for regular (yes, I said regular - no hacking of tree branches) use.
- The slim ergos/scale profile makes it invisible on your person, and ultra light-weight (weighing in at only 1.88 ounces-say whaaat? :)). I love to carry IWB, so this model is perfect (for me).
- I carry a blade for both, regular EDC uses (everything from cutting fruit/sandwiches at lunch, and opening stuff), and as a alternative self-defense measure (which the spear-point blade profile can come in super handy).
- The BM 530 is my absolute, favorite EDC. I know most love more robust/heftier folders (and I did before) but this knife is all I really need. I'm being realistic here.
- I've said it in the past, (and regret it now) that Grivory/Noryl GTX feels cheap. But to be quite honest, I only felt that way about the Grip series (Mostly because of the hollow sound on the larger grips due to the partial liners). The Grivory on the 530 does not feel cheap, and the material itself, is probably one of the most durable knife scale materials on the market.
- Hands down my new favorite EDC.

- THIS IS NOT A KNIFE IN THE PRACTICAL CUTTING SENSE, so trollers don't even bother.
- THIS IS PURELY A SELF-DEFENSE DAGGER.
- You can throw this guy in your boot, belt, backpack (molle applicable), tac vest, and any other LE/Military gear.
- There's already a ton of reviews & training vids for this dagger, so I'll spare all the redundancy, do the research if you like the looks of it :)

Here are the only daggers/spear-points in my collection (most of them are but a month old, so please spare the lack of wear, small penis comments LOL)

POST SOME PICS OF YOUR OWN DAGGERS/SPEAR-POINTS AND YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH THEM! thanks

Where do you get the 530 CF scales? I sold my 530. I miss it. I may have to get another and get the CF scales.

Get one while they're still out, the lucky thing for you is - they sold them from 175 on down, so you'll prob get a low serial number, I have like 145 and 153 or something lol and I ordered within the first two days.. :jerk it: :)

I don't have many, but I'm a big fan of spear/dagger blades. Along the same lines also, leaf shape blades.

As long as you like 'em and they fit your needs, what the hell.. For me, if I'm not carrying some drop-point fixed camping/hunting, then it's gonna be some folder usually a BM. When carrying, I'd like to take into account a knife that could serve as a great self-defense blade also - and self-defense and daggers are synonymous for each other.

I just looked at your "my personal collection" link... that is a serious 94x collection. Which do you prefer to use?

Thanks, the 94x series is one of the most practical knives one could use.. The 940-121 is awesome, great materials & steel, and my favorite user would have to be the 940-1101..

My practical sensibility pushed me to try out the 530, and I think it's really made a lasting impression, all together great knives.

My white-whale is a 940DM, can't find one for less than 2 grand nowadays!

I don't know if he had an old or defective model, but my brother's 530 was the least easy opening axis I've used. It actually kept me from buying one, even though I love the blade and handle shapes. I also agree that the thin blade is all you need in most situations, as well as the grivory handles being tough enough for most anything (especially with the partial liners).

Wow, I hate to admit I didn't even know of the 940dm. But it is just beautiful. I'm afraid that I would be afraid to use it... or touch it.

How do you carry the socp?

I unboxed the reg. 530 yesterday and it was nicely oiled and very easy to flick! In fact, the reg. version was easier and less tight than the -1303 version. I'm happy with 'em ;)

The DM is amazing.. I wouldn't carry it, just collect it and pass off to my kids or something.. It's full Damascus - def. an art piece.

I placed the SOCP IWB for now, and can't feel it at all. Plus, you can't see it with all my gear, but I know it's there :) it's a must have.. Even tried it in my boots & couldn't feel it.

I've put my two Spyderco Military's away for a time, and gone back to EDCing my two Lone Wolf Harsey Tacticals. One being the smaller T-1, the other the massive T-3. I do not really have a problem with any blade shape, but do not see the need for chisel-ground tantos. Not a hater, just don't own any.

Me myself, I think the spear point is probably the nicest shape out there. And it offers the opportunity to sharpen the swedge. Both my Harsey's are almost there, they are sharpened to a point where just a little work with a hone will have the top edge sharp. Not quite, and not dangerous as they are now. But OH SO CLOSE! ;-)

Yeah, I think I'll have to give the 530 another chance!

yeah, it is definitely worth the title "art knife". I'd be afraid just holding it would create a microscopic speck of rust.

Is that in a uniform? I don't really understand the reason for the edge nearest the handle not being sharpened.

Correct - in uniform, I have a space by my cuffs where it can be concealed (but accessible). I believe the designers made the SOCP that way so the user could secure different hand grips without being cut by the edge on both sides.. This isn't really a dagger in the traditional sense (i.e., not having traditional handle/scales etc. for your hand), so if you don't have a traditional handle, you need more space for your hand without compromising yourself - being cut. That's my guess, could be wrong

Nice collection, very impressive!
