Daily Carry...maybe THE one?

Wish I could find a Mid-Tech Boa. Seems like that would be absolutely perfect.

Nice one Michael! The Boa is pretty slick in design for sure, but for me, that 941 is still ruling the roost!

Daily carry: small Sebenza, sometimes the classic, sometimes the regular. When I go out at night, I change that for the large tanto Sebenza.

A walk in the woods: Buck/Strider large spearpoint, generally a Greco Bird-of-Prey Raptor or Falcon dropped into my pocket, too. Great recent acquisition, which may replace the Buck/Strider: a Bill Siegle kerambit -- a deadly self-defense blade, and an awesome weed-whacker!

Always on the keyring, a Utilikey, generally on the belt, a Leatherman, lately, the Pulse.

For occasions when I might not want to wave a real knife around, I have been carrying my Delta Z silver 360 Pivot.

There's always some new knife around I need to play with. Recently, that's been an S&W FL2 as a beater and a beautiful little Spyderco Lum Chinese.

The only irreplaceable is the Sebenza, in some form or another. It's reliable.

my new one and only edc has become the bm limited run 770bc1.
yeah, the seb is a better knife. but the 770 gets more compliments from the sheeple! it is just cool. and it does everything i need. like opening letters and opening bagels! with those tasks in mind i have had it three weeks and not sharpened it yet. no, i'm not lazy. it didn't need it, silly! once again i'll say, it is just cool!

I have an unusual BM 705 -- the blade is M2, no, its not a forum knife, but the blade is !! It's my EDC in a G2 sheath. OK, I'd like to carry a bali, but they're illegal in NM. Here they're classified as "autos" -- go figure !! This 705 and its fellows, surefire light, P-83 (not 38) can openener, & various other "tools" are always at hand for emergencies, including a L'man Micra with the keys and a "wave" in the attache. Honestly, almost any curently manufactured quality folder (Benchmade ??) carried in one of G2's sheaths should suffice. Have to admit - I'm very partial to Benchmades -- IMHO, best bang for the $$$$ No, I don't work for them -- I'm an aerospace engineer in ALBQ, NM -- long ways from Oregon !! G2 does great work and may be able to add holders for lights to his designs --- ask him and advise, please.

Gary, you HAD the perfect EDC, but you got rid of it! I have one of the Blue 940's that I still use on the Flightline, but the Carbon Fiber handled 941 with the D2 blade is the best knife Benchmade has made! A shame you didn't keep it.

BTW: the coating Benchmade uses to color the handles on the 94x series of knive sometimes have a tendency to fade. Well the blue 940 I have did fade. I'm just telling you that you will end up with a pink knife:D after a while. :D

I really the 94x series of knives from Benchmade, enjoy the red one.

I just re read this thread from the beginning and wanted to say this is where it all began for me. Took one look at the post Neil Blackwood made with that pict of his Henchman and I knew I had to have one. This is one severe cutting knife...it slices and dices .

Can't carry a fixed blade at work...heck not even supposed to carry any knife at work . Though I do carry a Large Seb in a G2 Horizontal Sheath to work for EDC . On casual Fridays the Henchman gets worn in an inverted carry and she hides really well .

The next for me will be a Blackwood Skirmish , nothing else compares in my eyes . Need something to offset the weight of my 45 :D

Thanks Gary for a thread where I first learned of the Henchman ( which is why you have full visitation right of her ) and to Neil for making this a reality .

Hope everyone has a Happy Knife Year.....so you at 12 O'clock..SHARP !:D

My most favorite EDC is a Benchmade 941D2CF. I also have one of the red/black 941s like G2, but that is a safe queen. I have other options (lil sebbie, Socom Elite, WH Lancet, etc) but I love the 941D2CF. It's such a practical knife. Lots of blade in a slim managable package with a strong lock and top notch materials. It's an incredible slicer. What more could you want?

I was looking jealously at the 773BC1 that I gave my boss for Christmas today. I might have to get a 77x series, but it's one knife I won't get in carbon fiber. I think the 77x series works with the aluminum handles, but not so well in CF even though CF is usually my preference.

G2: All I can say is, I'm with you. The 941 knives are winning designs. Likely to become as timeless as a Buck 110.

EDC rotation is:

Either a:

Socom Elite

Benchmade 941D2CF

Plain Small Sebenza

and a Leatherman Micra and Al Mar cash clip in my pocket and a Leatherman WAVE in my brifecase.

I just love to see these months old threads come back up, especially when I responded to them early on. Two and a half months ago, on 10-14, I said my edc was a JW Smith Scimitar along with a JW Smith LS-1 Eighties. Well guess what, they still are in the rotation. Only now I have added a large model 2 framelock by Mike Obenauf to the mix. The Obie framelock has been very impressive so far. It is the closest thing to my "perfect knife" I have had yet. A year ago I would have said the large Sebenza Classic is without doubt the perfect folder for me. How things change in a year though, but the basic idea of a large framelock is still my "perfect folder". The Obie wins over the Sebbie because it has a longer blade, 3.75" to 3.50", thicker blade, .156" to .120", thicker titanium handles, .148" to .125", and it is heavier at 6.6 ounces to 4.5 ounces, and I see that as a plus, for me.

So the perfect knife seems to be based around a framelock for me. Don't get me wrong as the JW Smith's are NOT going to be retired anytime soon. As long as a liner lock is made with extra thick liners and blade and the geometry is right on the money then I am going to carry it!

Btw, the Buck Prince still occupies my left front pocket will a Cuda MAXX with serrated blade sometimes goes along in my left rear or right hand jacket/vest pocket. I have also taken to carrying my E2e Surefire in my left side vest pocket.

Art good to see this going as well!

From the initial post, only a few slight changes have taken place in that photo;

The 771 was changed for a 770 which is just a carbon fiber scaled version with a boron carbide coated blade...

The 921 went away, but I'm rethinking that decision and may gather one up.

The Main stay is that Red 941, exceptional knife to me, so very smooth and sleek/sharp cutter, while I'd not risk my life to the axis lock...hence the Sebenza sticking around, it is one that sees everyday use and the edge on this has held up remarkably well!

The Kershaw and SAK are still with me and won't be leaving any time soon!

Good to know some things do stay!
G2

and JohnW Glad that you hooked up with Neil and got that Henchman! That is indeed a beautiful knife! and WOW does she cut!!!

I carry a 425M Buck 110 (surprise surprise:D ) its been narrowed by about a third through the handle and bolsters, with purple heart scales and a file worked backspring. I almost forgot the added One Armed Bandit..

My "the one" is my decorated small sebenza. Of course, it is accompanied by a Levitator and a SAK Rally.

G2,

If you haven't already, please reacquaint yourself with the 921. S30V and Wharncliffe go hand in hand. If you're more beholden of the extra safety and sturdiness of a framelock, such as a Sebenza, but need a wharncliffe in S30V, check out Peter Atwood's offerings. If he made them in lefty versions, I would've broken my New Year's resolution.

My EDC:
Large Sebbie right front pkt.
Victorinox Fieldmaster right rear pkt.
Fred Perrin Original LaGriffe around neck on break-away chain
Spidie Perrin Street Bowie inside left breast pkt. parka or vest
WSI Ranger in briefcase along with Letherman Supertool and a TOPS Street Scalpel.

Lately i have been testing out one of the Spydie BRK Natives Golden Colorado in left front pkt., out of 5 i bought the one i carry ws the best quality good lockup no blade wobble (out of the 5 purchased 3 were questionable qulaity).

And Doc LAthe do you always carry that fixed blade on static cord front pkt. or do you also use it as neck carry?

Glenn
