This one was almost finished for the San Antonio show. I took it down there with a light etch on the fittings, so the future owner, the infamous J.K., could get a preview.
Back home, I heat-treated, drew to a spring temper, and etched all the fittings, including the "D" bow. To my eye, heat-treated fittings take the etch so much better, that the extra trouble is worth the possible disasters lurking in the process.
Here 'tis: 9 3/4 inch, six-bar "Controlled Explosion" blade, "W" twist frame straps, laddered "W" bow, billet "W" collar, butt-cap, and finial. Stainless steel file-worked spacers and frame liners.
The collar view gives a clear view of the actual "W" billet section.
The handle scales are core chocolate Mammoth ivory, with visible cross-hatching.
Take-down tool is "W" billet damascus, ivory, and D-2.
It's off to Paul L. for a spectacular sheath,(photos to be added)

Let's see if I can get a truer color image on the chocolate mammoth.
Talk about saving the best for last, here's Coop's great photo of my first D-Guard, backstopped by Paul Long's magnificent sheath.
This one makes me tickled,
John
