Nice thing about threaders is the twist are even. To each their own.

Does anybody use the press to clamp and hold one end for twisting?

I've seen that before. One other nice thing about my set-up is I can clamp both ends and do mid-bar twists.

This got me thinking, and when I was out in the shop this afternoon, I looked around and found:
A four jaw 4" lathe chuck for a 3/4-16 spindle
A 3Ph gear reduction 3/4HP motor that runs 100RPM at full speed. The shaft is 3/4" .(I should be able to thread the .750" shaft and screw on the chuck)
A VFD to make make it run slower as well as forward and reverse.
An air vise.
A two pedal foot control (Fwd/Stop/Rev) to run the VFD.

I put them all in a crate to build a twisting machine someday. Some angle iron and two pieces of Unistrut should be all I need for the chassis.
