Damascus EDC, the start of a journey: Est. 2017 (w. Dec 2024 update).

Does anyone have detailed information on the Damascus itself as in the content and variations over the years?

If no one has cataloged it here, I imagine the best place to find out about content would be Chad Nichols' site for current damascus and Devin Thomas' site for older variations.

The only regrettable behavior is the fact that so many of these gorgeous knives sit around unused. Until I read this thread, I had always incorrectly assumed these damascus blades devolved into sad grey blobs after some use. Because of this, I generally avoided buying and using damascus. You have helped to shed light on this fallacy, and I thank you for this.

Regarding CRK’s intentions, outside of the occasional special show pieces they put out here and there, I have to assume they want their knives used and used well. I have been collecting various styles of custom knives for years, and a common theme among makers is that, barring the occasional fancy collection pieces, they really, truly just want their knives to be used.

As a company founded by a custom knife maker, I cannot imagine CRK sees it any differently. They are simply kind enough to oblige those of us that like some bling to our user knives.

Anyway, you da real MVP here and have done this forum a great service. Many thanks to you, my friend.
I appreciate your kind words and agree on the points you have made. Glad I made a positive contribution here with this thread.

I have continued to put my damascus Seb to use. To be specific, this is a small 21 with spalted beech inlays and Devin Thomas Basketweave damascus blade. And when I say use, I want to make clear that I am a city dweller with a small yard and relatively limited access to outdoor space. I carry it clipless (with filler tab), loose in my pocket with no slip. I don't use my knives hard by any stretch of the imagination, but they are used as tools and do see use both inside and outside the house.

I am impressed with how well the damascus holds up in use. The factory etch is surprisingly persistent. Additionally, the pattern in the damascus itself aids in hiding scratches at certain angles. Overall, I am enjoying putting this piece of art to work.

I have posted a short video where I attempt to demonstrate what little wear I have accumulated thus far. It's hard to catch the light at certain angles, but I think you will get the point.

I really just wanted to showcase to potential damascus users that the first few scratches really aren't even all that ugly and kinda blend in until you go hunting for them. Fret not!

Hey all,
This is actually my first time ever posting on Bladeforums! I've been using my large 21 in ladder for about a year now, and this thread was one of the main reasons I got a damascus 21 in the first place. Thanks kidcongo and everyone else for leading by example in using these beautiful tools!

Steve, where did you get the thumb stud? Is it a double?

Gorgeous Damascus.

Had a small 31 w/raindrop that I sold almost immediately after buying it. After seeing all kids post with his user Damascus I’m really wanting one back, in the large variety. So if anybody knows a guy…😉 looking forward to taking the challenge!
