This is a customers design. I don't say that to remove myself from the concept, but more to give credit where credit is due. I find it a very well thought out and thoroughly functional knife. One of our own designed it and I am sure he will chime in.

The blade is 5.5" of 400 layer ladder damascus of O-1 and 15n20 at 59rc. The handle is 4.5" of ivory and the guard is 416ss. The guard is adorned with my sculpted and Frenh greyed deep releif scroll engraving. It is also a take down as all of my fixed blades are. Balances just behind the front edge of the guard.

The guard to handle fit is done on a radius in that the rear of the guard is concave, the ivory is convex. It creates a subtle touch that adds a little interest.

Let me know what you think!!

Great looking piece, Bailey. I really like the high releif work on the guard....kicks it
right over the top......And judging by the grip shape and proportions, I may have
"spicions about the customer's identity..!

Nice!!! Is that the one you were playing with when I was there?

Very elegant. Very nice design and masterfully executed.

Nice.

Bailey,
If that's where it's going, then I'm sure my
"spicion is incorrect.

BTW...where's your mark..?

You work fast!!!! For the rest of you, this knife was a profiled chuck of heat treated damascus with no bevels when I was out at Baileys less than 2 weeks ago and the ivory was a somewhat lopsided hunk. By the way, Bailey. I took your advice and picked up a Rockwell machine like yours on EvilBay. I still need to see if my oven is acting up. Thanks once again for your help and keep that funky curved 5 foot cheater bar handy for next time.:D

FANTASTIC knife Bailey!

Very elegant, yet a true workhorse at heart.

If that is headed to Alto, then I will be making the "using" version of that soon in 3V and Ironwood (or stag or micarta :) ).

It is a very solid design with a lot of sound reasoning behind it.

Just curious why he went with a straight blade, absent of at least a slight choil?

Gorgeous knife Bailey - no doubt your customer will be tickled. I sure would be.

Bailey was kind enough to render his interpretation of my design, and I’m humbled by the result. It’s truly more than I could have imagined.

A couple of years ago I decided to pull together all the elements I appreciated in a full-size hunter. I listed all the aspects of each part of the knife that were important to me after fifty years of field dressing and butchering animals from javelina up to elk in size.

Everyone here has his own experiences to guide him and has developed his own individual taste in such things, so I won’t bore you with the details of my list of features, but suffice it to say that once I had it together I realized I’d never owned a knife that incorporated all of them. I decided to ask a few of the top makers in the country if they would consider building it for me—makers I personally admired for their talent and body of past work—including Bailey and Nick. Both graciously agreed, and I couldn’t be more appreciative or more humbled by the willingness to engage their incredible talents to make real something I could only dream about.

I have to say this knife from Bailey has me in awe.

That right there is what custom knives all about.

Just a great looking hunter! The engraving and ladder damascus with ivory handle set this off as far as aesthetics are concerned, but the size and design of this hunter are totally awesome. Love the blade design, guard style and fit with ivory, and the handle has to melt in one's hand. Great work Will and Bailey!
