Damaskus/Damasteel

What about a resist ring surrounding the bolt? Like a build up of hot glue that can be peeled away, making a pool for the etchant. Etch the bolt deep, finish polish with a high grit as with the rest of the handle.
This. In the knifemaking course I did here in Austria, they used some paint/fluid to protect the handle before etching the stainless damascus blades. The handles were glued and shaped, but without final finish.

I always wondered why no one had introduced DAMASTEEL Corby bolts, even considered turning my own on the mini lathe. Then realized the pain in the ass it would be to etch the bolts after finishing the handles. Having said that, COOL!!!!!!!
I'm thinking of a few ways to do that . This way I like it somehow the most...finish sacrificial scale on knife with Damasteel pins screwed ,destroy handles and remove pins .Then I can do some dots/hole in heads of pins from both side and make appropriate tool to fit in holes/dots and then etch pins .If I make little more big holes they will add in pattern appearance ?
Something like this on picture

I have used the Munin twice before (flat ground) in my opinion that's the one that would look good hollow ground!
Well all Damasteel are hardened and in my brother hands now in Wien .I asked for 60 they insisted on 61 hrc .All are now between 61 and 61.5 tested .How hard you leave yours ?
My Damacore and rest in S30V not until next week

All straight as arrow if we believe my brother's word 🤣
I think it is Thor on top ?

One more question guys , how should I cut them ? Waterjet or Laserfiber , my friend is planning to kill me anyway, at least I can give him a real reason for it 🤣 I can use my trusting Makita angle grinder, but I plan to make pins from the leftovers .

Can't wait to see the knife you come up with, Mr. Natlek!
Well Eric , I make something this days :)
I cut and shape knife from spare Damasteel I have to practice process before I make knives for me and my kids . Easy to grind steel , I used new 80 grit belt for bevels on 30 m/s belt speed .I decide to grind flat grinds on this one .It is big knife so I leave it on edge about 0.35/0.40 mm .Plan is to grind swedge tomorrow if I have time .From piece of leftovers I make and etch pendant .Well , I was thinking that it will be pendant on my keys🤣 My son find better use of it and he steal it !!! Fire starter :)
I etch that piece in HCL from store 15-20% say on label .Finish was 1000 grit and I like it how it come .Easy work , now when i try it :)
Plan for this knife is to mirror polish it and then etch , we shall see this days .And I like this ***** Damasteel , look so cool .
Do you know why I did not start so far ?? I drew maybe hundreds of different shapes on that piece of steel, I didn't like any of them and in the end I decided on the first drawing I drew 🤣

Almost done , i need to glue handles and that is that .I have one question ...........can someone translate in simple English what this mean ? To EMBEDED what ? Just visible edge after gluing scales or whole vulcanized fiber before using epoxy to glue scales ? If it is just visible part after gluing scales it will be already soaked with epoxy from gluing ? No sanding after I glue scales ?

Quote is from site where i buy this red vulcanized fiber
Vulcanized fiber, for example, as an intermediate layer on handle scales.
The fiber should be glued with 2k epoxy resin glue and embedded with thin superglue after gluing.
I like it , it come nice so far ..................

Well I *embedded* that **** vulcanized fiber with thin CA from inner sides /about 5mm / taking care not to wet the wood . Done ! Sharpened and even i make some sheath and i need to buy some leather tools !! Next one is my Damacore DC18N , at least with that I know what kind of knife I want to make :)
Thanks for help guys
