I bought a knife from Dan here on the forum - very pleasant experience and a very nice knife. I have seen several threads started in the GBU all stating that dealing with Dan was a pleasure. I have seen knife after knife get snapped up on the sale forum with nary a complaint. Not quite sure where you are coming from but all evidence I have seen tells me that Mr. Graves is an honorable man. Maybe I am wrong and things have changed, but Dan has sold alot of knives recently here on the forums and I have not seen anything to the contrary.

The OP dug up several threads and posted the above in each. I consolidated the posts into it's own thread to make things simpler to follow for everyone.

Ah, I get it now. Looking forward to what Dan has to say about this. He always seemed (and still seems) an upstanding forum member and maker. I just wonder if the OP has a history with Dan -- maybe something non-monetary went very south between them while the order was still out. Naturally, if Dan took $1000 from the OP two years ago and hasn't provided the promised product or service, that needs to be rectified. The whole thing seems curious though.

Welcome to Bladeforums, now please provide evidence to back up your accusations. My experience with Dan Graves has been a positive one and I am shocked to hear someone accuse him of not being a fair and honest guy to deal with.

The lack of evidence or instances presented and inconsistencies theoughout the posts prompted me to consolidate. A new member specifically going after one person, and dredging up threads buried...seems very suspicious.

Dan and I have corresponded many times, publically here on the forum and privately. I have purchased a number of knives from Dan, and every transaction has been outstanding. Dan has always demonstrated a very professional and kind concern from the initial interaction for the purchase of a knife, to the prompt delivery.
I would never hesitate to purchase from Dan and consider him to be a completely upstanding and principled person and BF member.
I feel honoured to know him!

I agree . Dan is one of the many good ones . Something strange here .

I have 4 of Dan Graves knives. In his defense I will state that I bought from him on BF and custom orders. He never asked for a deposit and sent me pictures of the ordered knives as soon as they were finished, I paid him and had the knives (as well as the 2 I bought on BF) in 2 days. I'm sad to hear this about him. Hopfully he will respond to this thread and clear this up. This is not like Dan and would like to see both sides of the story.

I've bought 2 knives from Dan Graves that he posted in the "Knifemakers For Sale" forum. Everything was 100% straight forward and Dan always replied promptly to emails/messages. Hence the O.P.'s description of events does not fit with the Dan Graves i have dealt with.
Could there be 2 knifemakers with the same name ? As unlikely as this is, it seems more likely than the Dan Graves i know being a cheater/scammer.

I have one Dan Graves knife the con-artist and thief, it is in fact nicely crafted. But a while ago he asked for a $1000 deposit for a custom dagger and has not delivered for over two YEARS. Yes two years, he never gave an explanation but each time I talk with him he just lies and says it is on the way (twenty emails and phone calls TWO YEARS). But now I asked for my deposit back and he does not respond to emails - ever. VERY bad business practice (this is theft! nothing less). I have talked with one other person who lost a $600 deposit, this is not funny. If you are his friend you should do everyone a favor and encourage him to stop stealing and lying to forum members. If you are buying custom you should avoid Dan Graves he is charming but a thief (I have all the documents to prove the payment and non-delivery if anybody asks I will email about his scam).
Where is your so-called proof? You're making contradicting statements in your posts. You also stated that he burned another person for $600. Who is he and why hasn't he come forward? If you are going to trash a well respected maker and member here, please get your story straight. I have emailed Dan about your claims and I have no doubt that he will respond to me very quickly.

Maybe I can clear this up and maybe I cant. I made a dagger for steve and he paid me 800.00 for the knife. It was made out of elephant ivory and he was out of the country for over a year teaching. He asked me not to mail it to him until he returned. During that time I put the dagger in storage. When he returned he asked for me to mail it to him and I pulled the dagger out of storage and noticed that the ivory had a split and I told Steve and that I would build another. At that time he said no hurry as he was going back out of the country to teach for another year. He has recently returned and I have started on another for him. Unfortunately my mom's sister had a heart attack and I have been gone for over 3 weeks and have not been on the net or getting calls (some may have seen that I was selling fossil ivory, my neighbor did this for me as I have not had a payday in a month). I am about to complete Steve's dagger and hope to have it to him this week. Steve is a really nice guy and I think he was upset as I did not get back to him (I dont blame him for this) Please welcome him to the forum as he really is a nice guy and my reputation speaks for itself. Hope this clears some things up.

As you can see, Dan answered your thread. Is there something you forgot to tell us? Sure looks like it! What happened to the $1000? Why would you put a $1000 deposit on a $800. knife? The laws are very strict when it comes to shipping ivory out of the country. Maybe Dan should have sent you the knife with the crack in it. Then you might have a legitimate gripe.

Dan is 100% stand up. I have purchased knives from the for sale forum and custom ordered from him. I have received customs within weeks of the order. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but the is not the norm.

You have claimed that I have a 'gripe' that was not legitimate? This is not accurate...

Yet, I finally received an email from Dan... All my posts have been revised pending completion of the sale -

Thank you for your wisdom...

I have one walnut box of two plunge daggers - nice knives, been waiting for years and years for the second order. He finally (rrrrr) gave me an exact delivery date for a different style of dagger. Hopefully be able to send pictures upon receipt. Take care...
I am speaking for myself only and if the mods come down on me, I have no problem facing the heat. You have one helluva nerve posting anything like this after what you said about Dan Graves. You owe the man an apology. You were quick to bash him so be just as quick to man up and apologize to him. I would be happy to tell you exactly where you can "plunge" your daggers as well as your pictures.
