At work we ship out many packages every day. We've had a contract with UPS since 1987.
Twice they have screwed up and lost a package. They made "good" on both.
Sometimes we'll send something out and next week when the UPS invoice arrives there will be a surcharge because
the customer told us it was a commercial address when it was really a residential address.
No biggie usually, but it still miffs me a bit.

Well, I sent out a couple of packages last week. An 18lb and 22lb.
Decent sized boxes because the contents were big and I adding a lot of packaging material.
Both went 3-day because I wanted them delivered by Tuesday. ;)

I received the UPS invoice yesterday and one of the packages had an up-charge on it. What for?
The box's actual size was larger than the weight.
UPS feels that if the box is bigger than a "normal" box then it needs more money to haul it. Get a bigger plane.
(as a note, this was not an oversize box and fell within their maximum box size easily).
So instead of me paying for an 18lb 3-Day delivered box in the amount of $39, it cost me $51 for the adjusted to weight of 25lbs because my box was 8sq in. bigger than allowed for an 18lb box.

just wanted to bitch a little. :D

Boy, if having to pay more to send a bigger package is all you can think of to complain about ...

Oh, there is plenty to complain about, it's the no one listening part I'm having trouble with... :D

Yeah that is what shipping companies do. Usually charges based on weight, but the also have another tariff based on dimensions and volume, in case the parcel is very large. For example, in my old job it was that a size of one cubic metre equals shipping weight of 250 kilograms, even if the package was full of just feathers and styrofoam. It can come as an unpleasant surprise sometimes but it is just standard conditions in the business.
