Rolf,

In some cases The Pohan has good insights....not so much in this case. Joe's original input was very good. I suggested silk cord because it is easily obtained and runs about $12 a meter, which would not add that much cost the this piece, and this one very much would benefit from it because the blade is THAT good looking.

Japanese cotton ito is even less expensive, there is some available on the web for roughly $10.00/16 feet. Depending on locale, going to Walmart could cost more in gas than that.

Depending upon the weave of cord, nylon shoelace or other materials can be extremely rough on the skin, and runs the risk of creating hotspots, or worse, blisters. That sucks, because those blisters are usually on the worst place on your hands, and anything else you do winds up aggravating the issue.

This advice is based upon experience, many, many hours of experience swinging tanto, wakizashi and katana. It isn't some throwaway advice given off the cuff based on something I saw on the web or read in a catalog.....and for the cost, it's very good advice.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I did try and wrap these again, but I have not had a chance to post them. I had finished these a while back, although now I don't think I will every be happy until I get some more practice in.
