I was just setting up my question, and stating things so other people didnt repeat what I already knew about.

Well, of course they don't cost as much, since they are pretty much the laughing stock of the knife community, and since that is 95% of the people who would spend anywhere near that kind of money on any knife, thats to be expected. So if you dig it get it. If you are just trolling well then.........

Well, Extrema Ratio makes some folders that are just as robust, if not more so, than the Dark Ops, without all the mall ninja BS that goes along with Dark Ops, but you can expect to pay over $400 for them. One that I really like is the RAO, but I'm not paying $430 for ANY knife at this point in my life.

Extrema Ratio RAO:

Neat part is, it can be pinned open so not even disengaging the lock will close it. Thus, it becomes like a fixed blade. The sheath is also set up so you can carry it either way.

What is it about the DO knife that makes you think it is what you are seeking?

What properties are you looking for in a folder?

What functions do you want it to fulfill? That is, how are you going to use it? Cutting what? Under what conditions?

What is your budget?

What are you waiting for? Buy the Dark Ops. What more do you need? Blood grooves, quartz handle inserts, serrations, a coating that sheds fine airborne sand...

Try the Zero tolerance range by Kershaw. If you are into sturdy blades then the 0100 (I believe that's the numbet but I'm not sure) is quite good, reputed to be very sturdy and a good cutter as well. Unfortunately it's a fixed blade though.

If you want a folder that is advertised as having a good lock, long blade (above 4 inches) and decent steel you might want to have a look at the new SOG Pentagon Elite II or Spec Elite II. The Arc lock is advertised as being very solid and the blade is 5 inches long I believe. I think the new line has VG10 steel but I am really not sure on this one.

I'll be getting it when the heat dies down (wifey stopped all purchases cause 6 folders in a month is way too much) and I'll comment on it in the far distant future.

Get a Spyderco Chinook 3. Tough as hell, doesn't look like a mall-ninja wet dream, and designed by a guy who actually knows something about fighting knives.
Blade length is ONLY 3.75 inches, but I think you'd like it if you gave it a chance.
Cheaper too.

There are some Zero tolerance knives on the exchange right now going preety cheap that would meet your needs.

Want one of the toughest folders ever that probably will be go up in value.

Just buy a Spyderco MANIX

Tough as they come and I doubt you will find another folder in the same price range that compares.

$100

If you are a troll, go away, if you aren't, you have to excuse us. In the last few weeks, the downsides of Dork Op have been discussed at lengths, so the general tenor is a bit annoyed at the constant reoccurrence of this topic.

To summarize: Dork Ops are essentially junk rip-offs of a well respected maker, that comes with an overinflated ego bordering the mentally disturbed. Maybe in light of this, the response that a question for the same but cheaper excites here.

Bottom line is: Get a real knife for a whole lot less money. If you like the general shape and want a knife with good steel, excellent construction and a lock that is (unlike the one on the Dork Ops folder) above any suspicion: Get a BM 710 for about $110 street price (real realiable dealer, not cheapest deal on ebay). If you want a real brute of a folder, get the Ontario/Hossom Retribution. Or if you can not help yourself and really want a prybar that holds what it promises, spend the dough and get the real deal and buy yourself an Extrema Ratio.

That SOG Pentagon 2 looks badass, anyother sugestions? Great suggestions so far.

EDIT:Holy jackpot! The SOG Fusion Salute looks just like the MPC/Stratofighter and its gonna costs 45$ LOL!

"bad-ass looks" identify in many cases a functionally inferior knife. If you want something to impress your friends with, get yourself a Vaquero Grande.
