Dark Ops

I don't care how well made they are or what they cost. Maybe, if I was really desperate for one, I could overlook the hideous advertising practices BUT...

I don't buy knives from scumbags. I don't care what it is or how much it costs, if I think you are a scumbag, I won't be buying anything from you.

I like to sleep at night.

Possibly others don't have this moral handicap!

I've never seen one of their ads. I don't subscribe the the knife magazines. What is so bad about their ads? Do Surefire ads bother you? Have you ever looked through one of their brochures?

Thanks,
Rich

I would find something from Benchmade, Spyderco, or Kershaw/Zero Tolerance. Check their websites, find something you like, then go to www.froogle.com and punch it up.

Thats good advice , thanks, i never knew about froogle. But nothing on froogle comes up with the Benchmade 630 and half serrated blade :grumpy:

90 degrees is straight with no edge bevel whatsoever. 70 degrees would be a very thin sharp "nearly razor edge".

At least that's the way they seem to be putting it. But I've heard 15 degrees would be a razor edge. So it seems they did turn the standard way of looking at edge angle backwards? I think the 70% angle on that knife in question is what would be called a 20%. For some reason they are measuring the angle from the 90 degree mark back to 70%. Which would be of course a 20 degree edge. Nearly the 15% razor edge, so that's something else to make fun of D.O. about.

I'd say taking the industry standard way of putting something and reversing it is worthy of a little mockery. ;)

I simply don't believe it. You don't seriously think, that there is a 10 deg per side edge on that prybar (20 deg included)? A quick calculation shows that the primary blade bevel is already over 10 deg per side, so even if it were ground to zero edge (which it clearly isn't) it couldn't have a 20 deg razor edge. And 20 deg per side I would consider poor industry standard, not a razor edge.

No but there plainly is no 70 degree grind on that knife. 15 degrees is what a razor edge is ground at. For some reason the person writing the 70 degrees is measuring the angle backwards from 90 degrees taking the 20 degrees the "nearly razor edge" off from the 90 and saying 70 degrees. That's all I can figure - and yes the blade can be sharpened at 20 degrees per side. If that's the angle they choose. It could be 70 degrees, but I think that's just a mistake.

Yeah, I saw that. Looks sort of like a comic book. I know Surefire is quaking in their boots.

I kinda like my flashlights in "plain" - my dominant hand will be holding the .40 cal. If your backup plan is your flashlight, well, you've got trouble.

Do you shoot the shells with the flashlight or something?

Edited to take the ^ symbol away. :D

Someone bring the horse back to life, so we can beat it to death again.
But really, its still pricey but try an extrema ratio.

How is this knife I came across online? It looks to me like the Ontario Retribution bulk combined with the easier to carry Pentagon. Two knives in one? Nice piece, nice buy? You guys didnt mention this one cause it sucks or cause you were holding back on me :p?

Benchmade Skirmish 630SBK

The Benchmade 10100SBP also looks nice, and affordable.

How do you sharpen the part of the blade with serrations?

Either of these would be a good selection. I like the Skirmish myself. But that's a personal choice.

Serations can be sharpened useing a triangular stone such as is found in the Spyderco Sharpmaker sharpener. You can also buy triangular sharpening stones here:

does anyone know if there is a difference in the steel between the Dark Ops Interceptor & Extrema Ratio Harpoon II?

You aren't going to find much as far as actual facts, here about D.O. knives. They are so hated here and whatever they are seems not to matter as far as their workmanship. I merely own one example of the brand among dozens of other knives and that alone (and the fact that I'll say it looks like a well made knife to me) is enough to cause some people here to insult me. So if you are looking for facts on the brand I doubt you will find anything of much use here.
