I searched a bunch, read varying threads on gun blue working/not working. I tried hot vinegar, no go lol

Anyone got any secrets? I REALLY want to darken up this infidu.

Of course it's not real bluying - cold one only
Two thoughts
- cold blue may not be even, so expect smudges and waves
- cold blue may be not so food friendly !

I’ve only ever re-blued a shotgun. Never tried a knife. That stuff worked great on my SxS, but then again it’s a completely different steel.

Interesting, I read the gun blue doesn't hold up well, kinda wears/rubs off easy if it works at all. Some peoples said it didnt work at all on their infi blades.

Because it's COLD BLUYING !

Sort of thin chemical paint only.
It's not even and wear quickly, same uneven.

Only properly made hot bluying is worth efforts
But it's not for homemade play
Foundry skills and solutions required !

No plans on hot bluing. I'm real stubborn, I might go on a journey to see what if anything can patina infi.

I wish I would have read this an hour ago-- I just scotch brite-d my stripper battle saw to brighten it up a bit!

On that blade, using it to cut into hot meat and taking it out in the wet naturally darkened it in pretty short order

Try cold blue
But effects are dependaple on skills and type of steel !
Rather russian roulette, at least for few first times

But cold blue may be easily removed :^D

Acid etch it? 🤔
Wish radioshack was still a thing. They had etching fluid there. Not sure where i'd get now. If people can blackwash stainless, infi can be blackwashed. The question is how the hell am I gonna darken this sucker with what I got.

I get it from Amazon believe it or not. Just look for ferric chloride or pcb etchant. Works on stainless so it should work on anything including INFI.

Excellent information! Thanks. Might make this into a project. Remove handles, etch, stone wash to get a black wash, and then reattach handles. It would be a sexy infidu.

Sure would! I think it’ll look great. I’m one of the few weirdos who likes the look of a beat up coating so I don’t have any stripped.

I did do an acid wash on a Spyderco blade I had and it turned out great. I did it the ghetto way though - gravel and blade in a Gatorade bottle, towels around that, duct taped, and ran a few cycles in the dryer.

I'd need a 2 liter to shake up the infidu lol How dark did the etch make it?
