Depends on how dark I can get it, ideally if it gets real dark I'll stonewash it for a blackwash finish.Yeah, it’s pretty nice as is, but I know what you mean. Gonna stonewash it or just etch it a bit?
This is the stuff that I use to etch a logo. I put a few drops on the logo of a coated blade , leave it for 30 minutes. Rinse and repeat about 5-10 times. Gives a nice deep etch. Then I would strip the blade. But the etched logo wasn’t darkened?
So you etched it with the coating on by just applying the FC to the logo drops at a time? But when you stripped it, the logo was not etched? This is the stuff that I use to etch a logo. I'm gonna do a little experiment while I'm at it. Is it going to get grey or black?Just make sure you wash it with dawn first because any oil on the blade from your hands will resist the acid. It’s hardened steel, it’ll darken. Might take a few applications (because some washes off when you neutralize it with the baking soda), but it’ll get there if you keep at it.
At the very least it won’t be shiny anymore. There’s LOTS of tutorials on YouTube on how to git r dun, and they will be a lot more descriptive than I can remember right now. Just look a few up and let er rip.
Never done INFI so I’m not sure. I was able to get VG10 (I think… it’s been a while) pretty damn dark. All else fails you can always go with that dark gun blue thatI'm gonna do a little experiment while I'm at it. Is it going to get grey or black?
Good info, I'll keep you updated!Never done INFI so I’m not sure. I was able to get VG10 (I think… it’s been a while) pretty damn dark. All else fails you can always go with that dark gun blue thatJohnTheTexican mentioned (Kleen-Bore Black Magic) on top of what the ferric chloride does. That should getcha there for sure.
Knives Plus in Amarillo does a lot of acid stonewashed custom stuff on stainless blades and they come out plenty dark. No idea what their process is though.
I’m very intrigued to see the outcome of this. Hope it comes out the way you want.Good info, I'll keep you updated!
This is actually turning out really nicely
