I had a question for Darrel Ralph related to a knife I purchased at this year's Blade Show in Atlanta. I sent him an email this morning, and he answered it within the hour! Whatever folks think of his products (I'm a fan), customer service is extremely important, and Mr. Ralph proved he thinks so as well.
My advice to anyone thinking of buying a Ralph (or one of his collaborations) is to do so knowing he'll be there to address questions after the sale.

Hey GTechWreck, You must be a fellow Georgia Tech'r.
I had the opposite experience from him. I have a friend
who lives in Canada and was interested in supplies from
knifekits.com. I sent 3 emails to Darryl asking if they shipped
to Canada since it wasn't obvious from the website. I got
a read receipt from Darryl's account saying that he read each email
within a few minutes of receiving each of them, but Weeks later
he still hasn't had the courtesy to respond. I've not bought
any of his stuff and don't plan to since he can't even take the
time to courteously answer a question from someone trying to
order his stuff.

Go figure...Maybe it's because I bought a knife from him. Sorry to hear about your experience. My question of him was about bronze washers for the Ralph/Wilson tactical folder, and he directed me to the Knifekit website, and he followed up to see if I got thru to them.
Oh BTW, I am a Ramblin' Wreck! Arch. '82!

Just got my EDC back from Mr. Ralph. It needed a little touch up and came back better than new. All correspondence was immediately corresponded to. Certainly an elite maker and a world class customer service orientation as well.

It's sad that I won't be able to praise his products. If he can't take the time to respond to a series of inquiries about a couple of potential purchases, He doesn't care much for potential customers.
It seems he only cares to respond and act courteous only if you've already given him some money. I'll continue to patronize those makers who care to answer an email about a product question, for they are the ones who Truly Deserve it!

I've e-mailed Darrel a few times in the past with questions and he has always responded swiftly. He even sent me a backspacer for a typhoon when I lost one, free of charge. I'd have to say your situation is not the norm Marauder, and I'm sorry to hear of it. Could it be possible your e-mails are being filtered out by a spam filter somehow?

I don't think a filter is the problem, although I could be wrong.
I received a Read Reciept from Darryls account after he had read all 3 of them. I know he got them, and I don't have anything on my end to stop his email to me or the Read receipts wouldn't have made it through from his account. It's puzzling I'll admit, but after 3 seperate trys on different days it didn't take long to start looking like he just didn't want my money. I'm glad everyone else has had such good luck, but there still seems to be
some correlation with giving him money first and then him being friendly. I may be totally wrong, and it wouldn't be the first time in my life I've made a mistake. This was just my experience trying to get a simple answer from him before ordering.

Marauder,
I don't know what happened, but I email Darrel a while back about visiting the shop for a tour and info, and he got right back to me.
There is probably some kind of mistake.

Marauder,
That doesnt sound like Darrell, may be some kind of screw up somewhere. If you like his stuff and are willing to find out what the problem is, give him a call. Darrell's a great guy and loves to talk knives.

I have found Darrel to be one of the *most* responsive Makers out there.

Every E-mail communication was answered immediately and he always followed up.

When it comes to E-mail Darrel is very conscientious.....

This doesn't sound like the Darrel I know.

Did you e-mail Darrrel or Knifekits, com? I think Knifekits is a seperate entity and I'm not sure Darrel handles all of the e-mail questions. It's either that or Darrel just doesn't like you, or he thought you were from Canada and decided to ignore you, and nobody could blame him for that. :D

Phil, even up North here Darrel's service has been excellent. :p I have delt with Darrel a few times and he is top notch in my books.

I emailed info@knifekits .com, but the Read receipt was from Darryl's
email account. It has his name Darryl Ralph in the line that said who's account had opened and read it. Unless someone else uses his email, I just don't know what happened. I did try 3 seperate times incase 1 or 2 were flukes. I'm glad he has been so responsive to everyone else, I just wish he would have been to me. I'm not saying
he was Rude or anything like that. I just couldn't ever get a response to the 3 emails requesting info before my order. I'm sure
Darryl is a Stand up fellow and I have nothing against him. I just wanted to add my experience to the list so anyone else can see that stuff like that happens.

Darrel is one of the finest men you will ever meet in this business. From my perspective, as a Dealer, he is tops is communication and all around support. His knives speak for themselves. Also, Darrel is my friend.

Clearly, you are having communication issues that are most likely causing you to feel required to malign him publicly in an open Forum. Why not confront him directly?

His email address is; dr@darrelralph.com and his phone number is; 740.965.9970. He was there all day today as I spoke to him several times- I have been receiving email from him regularly as well.

Neil

David, I'm going to make two suggestions; go to the Shop Talk forum here on BFC, Darrel is a Moderator there. Click on his name and e-mail him directly with your question. Or, go to CustomKnfeDirectory forum and go to the KnifeKits forum and ask your question there. If Darrel doesn't see your question and answer directly someone else is sure to have an answer for you.

I hope this helps.

Neil, my intent was never to malign him as you suggest. I only openly wondered if he routinely blew people off unless they had already given him money. It was merely a question. As I have already tried to contact him 3 times no less and I recieved confirmation that the email address you gave was the one that read my email according to the email confirmation I received, I think I have made a valid effort. So far it still seems that those who get such great responses from him are folks who have given him money already. While this may not have been his intent, that is still what the situation appears to be.

I have learned not to ever say anything that's not glowing on this forum that's for sure. I'll just keep reading, but save my questions and responses as I clearly seem to be in the wrong. My apologies to all.

Not maligning? I must be very tired.....

Once again- dr@darrelralph.com and his phone number is; 740.965.9970.
Must be. If you can explain why all the glowing recommendations come from people who have given him money before their correspondence, I'd appreciate it. I haven't seen a bunch of folks jump in and say "Well, I never bought anything from him, but he responded promptly to my correspondence". All 3 of my read receipts were from dr@darrelralph.com so that's pretty much useless. I will try to call him, Thanks for the number. I still don't see how me presenting the facts the way I see them is a malignment. Again, I apologize for ever having said anything. Please just let it die. I won't make this mistake ever again. From now on, just Good Thoughts and Happy, Happy!
Thanks for the Memories,

David,
How are you ?
Sir from time to time email is a bad thing with the virus problems that have attacked the internet in the past 6 months.
I always answer questions. I try my very best to make sure that I do not miss anything.
The other problem is that I have TWO spam catchers, dual firewalls, and a virus program to keep my computer clean from the really bad infections out there. I get emails from other folks that were not even sent to me? I cannot explain this but it happens.

One thing I want to address while were on the subject. I get calls and emails everyday from many folks. I answer every question. I have NO criteria for the calls I take or questions answered by email.
I am sorry that you have a vision about me that is so negative. I feel this is a skewed perspective about myself and business practices.

So to clear the air what is your question?
I will gladly answer it right here on this PUBLIC Forum.

I want to thank everyone who commented. Its nice to see kind words.
I do really try hard to keep relationships on the bright side.

oh yes, darrel is a good guy, he sent me very detailed info about his maxx line when i was fixing to buy a mini maxx, before i bought a USED one (and he knew that) from a fellow forumite, always done me right ...........musta been a foul up imho.
