Another from the same batch:

Turns out my buffer with a bit of buffing compound polishes that scale off rather quickly. I was kinda surprised.

The short sword from the batch. 5160, 23" OAL, 18" blade, 3/16" thick. Experimented with grinding fullers free-hand using an angle grinder. I think I'm gonna need to clamp some metal on there as a guide next time. Didn't quite get them even. Balance point is about 3" up the blade, so when it makes contact, it hits pretty hard. Similar balance to a dao.

I think patience is going to be the key for me here. It takes forever to get all the previous lines polished out of the blade on 5160 (much easier on 1095 for whatever reason), and I'm a bit too impatient for my own good. Does anyone know if there are ceramic belts that are finer grit than 220? They just work so much faster than the SC belts.

I'm loving the looks of the mosaic pins in the micarta. Turns out black canvas micarta looks a lot better IMO when it's finished to a fairly high grit (this one is finished to 800 grit). Brings out the patterning nicely.

Here's what it looks like in hand:

I can't wait to order my next batch of steel from Aldo!

There's no real rush. I'm just by nature impatient, which means that I want to get them done sooner rather than later. It's been a struggle since proper knifemaking seems to require one to take one's time and make sure it's all done right.
