Barry Dawson “Sheffield Bowie” Pattern #58

This is a heavy-duty Sheffield bowie knife dating from Barry Dawson’s days in Durango CO. My brother bought it directly from Barry between 1985 and ’89 and it has seen a little use as a camp knife. It has batoned small rounds with no damage to the false edge and shows carbon streaks from a few strokes on a ferro rod (it sparks very well). It is in used but extremely good condition with a professionally refinished edge. Various members of the Dawson family have told me Barry was making these out of 440C steel in the 1980s, but the hardness and durability of this blade are unbelieveably high, unlike any 440C I have encountered.

Stats:

Blade 9” (including ricasso and integral guard)
Sharpened false edge 5.25"
Handle 5” (from edge of scale to pommel)
Overall 14”
Width 1.375”
Thickness just a hair under .25” or ~6mm
Sheath 4mm thick bison leather
Weight 16.20oz (22.85oz in sheath) or 459g (647g in sheath)
Steel 440C
Beadblasted finish on blade, satin polish on tang edges; laminated/stabilized wood grip slabs; brass pins

$400 to your door, including insured shipping (PayPal goods and services), and I will entertain reasonable offers made privately.

Let me know if you have any question and thanks for looking. I can also post or send additional pics if requested.
