Dealer that test there knives hrc before delivery

But otherwise who's gonna buy all those knives with an extra divot that don't meet some guy's standard? Will they just get donated to the knife pound?
I'm trying to picture how it would work.

A dealer receives a shipment of knives from the manufacturer. He then tests (all the knives, or just one at a customer's request?) When said knife or knives now have a divot and perhaps measure .005% off from spec, will the manufacturer accept returns from the dealer? It can't possible be worth the liability and hassle for any retailer. If it really matters to the OP, he can buy a knife and send it off to be tested.

I would happily adopt some of those orphan knives from the pound though.

p.s. "their"

Danke42, found your movie reference, but iTune's wants 3 bucks to watch it, wonder if amazon's got it for a buck... or netfix for "free."

Could be a good job to apply for. TSA Seized Knife Curator.

Anyway, as someone who use to work for tsa, all confiscated items are discarded down some Chute in the belly of the airport and presumably destroyed --- A side question to the knowers,
So it would appear not every knife has a rockwell hardness divot, dimple, or indentation, do they test one or two out of a batch? And if so. If you end up with a knife with an HRC indentation. Does it become a collectable item?

I can’t speak for what other makers do re: hrc determination, but I do know that Rockstead measures the hrc on every knife they sell and that number is included with the knife’s documentation.

That chute leads to right here.

I test all my knives now and the divot is ground away or covered up. I do the test before gluing the handle. Once the handle is glued on there is no longer a flat spot that will fit on the tester. And from what is taught in the shoptalk section of the forum testing on the bevel will not give an accurate number.
