Aw man! When I first started reading, I thought you were gonna say you didn't like the WWII you got yesterday. I was about to make you an offer.:D

Lurker that's funny, 'cause I think you managed to snag something I was looking hard at just the other day. As I recall, I sent an email and then saw that ya beat me to it! Remind we what you bought (maybe it was this week, or late last week?).

EDIT- Ah yes, I just found it- the Sher Attitude from Valentine's day. Good one- very nice!

Likes and dislikes are subjective. I like the looks of the balance, but don't like the looks of the PK - even though I got one.
The PK is a good knife, but not as pretty as some others.

had to snicker at that one. :p

On another note, is it "okay" if I say I don't, uh, like a khukri? I know they're usually stunning, but I just don't love the look of those balance khukis. Is it just me or does anyone else feel likewise? Not that I'd turn it down or anything...

Have to say, though, that's the ONLY khukri I've seen that I didn't like right off the bat (which probably means that a seed of lust has been secretly and unknowingly planted within my soul, and 2 months from now, all I'll want is a balance khukri!).

Sure it's OK, but personally I love the Balance! Esp. these new ones from Sgt. Khadka. I think it's a great design for a small knife. In fact, taking a page from Munk and the BDC, this is one model I would love to see in a larger size.

I have a 13" 13 oz. one from Sher that I bought from a fellow forumite last year as they had not been coming for at least a year, so could not justify this one even though I think the Sgt's handles are better.

I won the Valentine's Day Attitude. Got it today and promptly ran out and cleared some of my back yard.:D Beautiful khuk! Although if you'd like to trade....:)

I'm tellin' ya- watch me: now that I've said I didn't like the look of the Balance Khuk...

...I'll own one within 6 months.

What can I say? If I really love something or REALLY don't, it sticks in my head, and eventually I feel a compulsion to have it. And I usually end loving it MOST (although don't tell my wife that:eek: :D ).

Go Sharks!!!!!!

Only the "Movie Model" left..... Was that a Dagwood, Hollywood or Peckerwood Handle....LOL!!!!:D

Missed the Karda but got the horn village balance by Sgt Khadka.
My collection is growing quickly, faster than the bank account!

Thank you Yangdu

dang - i tried to text message/email from the depth of the woods for "buy them all", but well, you all beat me. fair enough.

course, i was out USING some prior DOTDs and testing out the difference between my just sharpened 17.5 inch 29 GRS by kumar vs a 16 inch 21 once GRS villager (i think by bura), vs a $20 fiskar sport axe vs a $8 fiskar folding saw :)

the saw is definitely quieter, so if you're trying to be stealthy, that's the way to go, and on oak and near solid pine, almost as fast as the sport axe (it's light weight, but man it cuts), but the large GRS was fastest - then again, i had just put it's first edge on - i'll probably get a bunch more sand paper and work on that gradually, over the next few days, needs some surface work still. the smaller GRS, well, who'd think 8 ounces and 1.5 inches would make a differ. the 4-5 inch fallen oak that the large GRS chewed on without trouble, well, it laughed at the poor little guy - lot of vibration too. it COULD be that i need to work on that edge, but from tests, it seems pretty sharp. i know the large GRS is sharp (sucks thumb).

so, i got back just in time to see some 20ish posts, and a lot of happy sharks and other people chumming er bumming at having missed. next time guys. oh, and remember, i got right of first refusal on any AK over 18" (shotgun! i called it! waah!) :)

oh, and carrying all that stuff for 3 hours is heavy. oof. :>

I would of loved to pick up that hanshee but maybe next time. I was out testing a 15in 23oz AK vs a 16in 24oz BGRS at the time of the DOTD. It seems that they are both about equal as far as cutting wood up to 5in but after that the BGRS is better. The BGRS also seemed to be better at spliting wood.

Dang. What an offering. Missed it completely. Did Norm get the antler M43?

Sure it's okay. I say it all the time, well not all the time but there are a couple I just plain don't care for.;) :)

Balance is as Balance does to change the saying of Forrest Gump's words.
We have three balance models. Two of the standard HI Models and one I finished myself, an as finished Chainpuri Blade.
I took some artistic license with it, rounded the angle off the back and rounded the cuting edge side a little as well and then put on an African Knobthorn wood handle.
When I got the Chainpuri blade I never dreamed in my wildest moments that it would turn out to be a balance model as well.
It was one of Uncle Bill's favorite khukuris!!!! :D

I wasn't too fond of the way the balance model looks myself when I first saw them but I was kinda mesmerized by them and wound up buying three of them, one I gave to my granddaughter.
They will however grow on you.

Lets see if I can post a pic of my Chainpuri, bet you'll like it.;)
Looks like it's gonna be on the smallish side, sorry.:(

Edit:
The large knife without a handle is an as forged Hanuman blade that I'll get around to putting a handle on one of these days.
I broke the tang off by hammering on it trying to put a curve in it while it was cold. A friend of mine welded it back on for me.
It's also the one I went to sleep with in my lap and it fell and cut one of my toes, five stitches IIRC.
I was lucky it didn't take the toe clear off!!!!

WOW!

That blade looks very neat. Gives off a real 'serious business' vibe - yeah, I'm ugly, but that just means I grew up meaner. Also makes it look like it might be an ancient relic buried for a few hundred years -- not that actual carbon steel would survive that.

That would be a very nice addition to my collection - though I think I would need one pre-handled. My skills aren't up to that.

...

 stop giving me all these expensive ideas before I've even found a job! :grumpy:

;)

So who snagged that 15" PK, and are we finally going to get a field review?

You bet. What sort of field stuff would you like to see included?

The older hands might have some extra ideas, but I would settle for a nice chopping comparison against something like an AK or BGRS. Sacrifice a tree or two, take some pictures, let us know how it felt. That sort of thing.:D
