Deals for 2/2 -- Pix, Padam Villager Dui Chirra, Purna Dui Chirra and Awesome Buys

And another down under mate too.

We done well with the first down under mate, reckon we'll do fine with this one too.

Glad you decided to take the sack off and show yourself.

Welcome and keep on sharking.

Thanks for the welcome and getting me to join up!
Due to the time difference it's been quite difficult to shark actually and I only got the baby Kobra with wood handle (sorry Moonw - that was me!), the Purna yek Chirra, one of the 10 inch CAK handle by Dhan (my first HI knife) and now this Gopte.
The others were from emailing Yandu as per your advise on the various posts!

Gotta admit that I love the Purna Dui Chirra, but alas, my all paisa are being saved for yet another custom. Guess I'll go back to my Vegemite and toast and pout.

Hi guys
Got Bawanna's message and decided to join the forum! I've been sharking here since the last week of December and this Gopte is my 8th HI buy since the HIKV hit me hard in the silly season! That's about 2 kukris a week since I bought the first one around Christmas!

Welcome Kanano, glad you decided to pull the sack off of your head, and come up from the deep. Enjoy your stay.

Well, I can forgive you once I guess...:D:p

If yall go for one of them girly man group hugs I'm liable to hit ya over the head with my purse.

Somethin else you need to tell us Bawanna? Dont tell me you have a pink Bashpati to go with your purse:eek:

It's important to coordinate accessories and that's all I have to say about that.

Purna's wife helps Purna
Great team work!

Thanks Auntie, I love these live action photos.

I'm gonna show it to my wife and see if she'll help on the wood pile.

And toothless now!
It's mainly been the small onse - 2 10 inch, 1 kumar Karda, 1 12 inch BDC, 1 14.5 inch Gopte, 1 baby Kobra by Sher, 1 15 inch Angkhola, 1 17 inch Purna yek Chirra and now this 16 inch Gopte with CAK handle.

I,m built more like a Nepalese at just 5'7" and find the smaller kukris more suitable for my hands and strength.

The Purna handle is a bit too large for my hsnds and the weight at 32 ounces is too much for me to handle comfortably.

So hope this Gupte at 22 ounce will be just right for me, though the handle does look at little large in the picture.

I'm only 5'8" and I found my 15/26 M43 to be a very nice size. Planning to pick up a 17/32 CAK for a heavy duty chopper.

Did you find the Purna uncontrollable in general or just for prolonged use?

I just found it heavy in general - I would not say uncontrollable. Because of the angle in the handle, it feels really comfortable in the hand. But the size of the handle is too large for me to really have as much control over the blade as I do with my other blades. Really have to hold it tight.
My heaviest kukri now is my Bhakta 15 inch Ang Khola and because of the size of the handle feel really great in the hand and comfortable using it.

I would say the weight of my Purna at 17/31 is heavy but usable - if I was 20 years younger I really would not have complained! It the combination of the large handle size and weight with age catching up that make me uncomfortable in using it.
Was thinking about it the other day while swinging it around, that it would be the perfect weapon where a single cut would be needed - like in a self defense situation -you know, bears in your part of the world and drop bears down under :)! The weight and curve of the handle will ensure the blade cuts through anything it encounters!

Would find it hard to do that repeatedly though, like in LOTR like action!

For heavy duty wood chopping, if you've got the arm strength, it would make a terrific chopper.

Great picture! I just showed it to my, the funny thing is we were talking about husband and wife team work not more that ten minutes before we saw the picture.

We just got like 2.5 feet more snow and the wifey and I shoveled out both our and the neighbors drives ways. I love the way my wife works, just like a guy! Purna's wife looks tough as nails swinging that hammer like a kami! A happy wife is a happy life, and your best friend should always be your wife.

First of all, I forgive you for picking up like half of the blades I wanted to buy, based on the list :| :P.

Second - did you consider sanding down the handle to a more comfortable size?

Very revealing photograph. Purna's wife is probably one reason that his blades appear superior to many others. It's always interesting/educational/fun examining photos of the Kamis, Sarkis, and their families. Hopefully, more will be forthcoming. I would very much like to see photos of the city around BirGhorka. Looking at the photos of the factory's progress as it was built was fascinating. I'll never be able to travel to and see Nepal, but photographs are the next best thing.

Back in 2013 the HI operation moved to a town called Sallagari, and this thread has a photo and a satellite view of the area:

wow I have to agree that purna's blades are extra magical because of the skilled team that produces them, amazing to know this-- I for one would really like it if purna's wife also got a kami mark since what she is doing in that picture takes very high levels of skill and many years of constant labor. :D I know that purna mark is already for both of them, but it is extra amazing to me that purna and his wife make these blades together and they are the finest I have collected in pure form and function-- I do not believe the man was fibbing one bit when he said he was the best kami in dharan.

super cool picture, love things like this.
