Deals for 2/28 -- Pix, D-handled Khukuri, Sword and great buys

Holy TOLEDO!

Look at that TARWAR!...IT SO WANTS ME TO CUSTOMIZE IT!

And somebody please buy that tarwar before I do something stupid!

I know what you mean Ferguson!

It really is too bad I am broke.:o

Nooooooooo!!!! I'll never get a kuk at this rate. I always seem to miss out by seconds. I'm too poor to pay retail. Oh well, I'll keep trying. Maybe one day I'll succeed.

Wow - some people must be very fast. I emailed 1 minute after the post and missed the specials. My fingers must be much too slow. I had an email ready, and just had to type a word or two.

I guess that I will have to just send an email and hope that the item I want is on the daily special.

So how do ya'll do it? Do you just keep refreshing the main forum page? Or did you find a way to subscribe to the forum so that individual emails are immediately sent to your Inbox? What's the secret ye quick of fingers?

If it's not obvious. I'm brand new here.

Second, what is going on with the posts attached to the DOTD announcing who emailed on what? Does that help the other forum members or Yangdu in some way?

Call me dense if you wish. Thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

bc

Yep, refresh is the key.

Folks post what they've emailed on, so others whoe are interested will know not to send an email. Eliminates false hope and cuts down on the sad replies Yangdu has to make.:)

some of us provide a service... you send us a lot of money. tell us what you want. we do all the work for you. eventually. no promises :) you might actually get a kukri - though not what you wanted always :> then there's the handling fee and ... ;)

wouldn't that be grand? yah.

really, we just sit here, and watch the clock, and wait. at peak, there was something like 55 people watching.

Yeah, I was just lucky enough to get the WW2 by Bura.
I am very much looking forward to owning my first HI Khukuri knife :)

I tried to get that one as well but missed. I have several 18" models and one 19" but no 16.5" WWII's. Maybe someday...!

Today I got lucky. I got the villager BAS.

Mtnfalcon, I understand you completely. Yesterday I missed a great villager I wanted so badly. Sent an e-mail, but somebody grabbed it already. Today I was lucky though. Most of the time I am not fast enough though.

But don't give up, there is always some nice khukuri popping up on the deals, and one might have your name on it.

Thanks for all your kind replies.

Are these blems, or does Yangdu just reserve a portion of the artwork sent from Nepal for ya'll, HI's rabid, addicted fans?

After reading a lot over the last couple days, I think I'd like to get a 15" or so AK or Balance by Bura or Sgt. Khadka, with a wood handle and wihthout the cho. Ideally, it would have a handle and maybe full tang as seen in this KH knife: http://tinyurl.com/r4eel. What do you think of your traditional HI handles, especially with that raised ridge in the middle, versus gripper-type handles like that? I'm 5'8", 145 lbs, with smallish pencil-neck hands. Most of the Khuk handles look just too beefy to be comfortable to me. I've never personally seen one or handled one.

Beauties one and all. I keep missing these sales. Probably a good thing. Did get that BAS last week.;)

Edited. Welcome mtnfalcon! You'll love it here. I'm going to advocate for either the BGRS (Baby Ganga Ram Special) or the BAS in the 15" range. I am newly addicted to the BAS. Littleknife you're gonna love that BAS. Do a search for Sylvrflcn's posts on it from Afghanistan!!!!!!!!! Who could resist that kinda reading. Sarge, you're my hero!

mtfalcon and Shao here's the deal. You gotta sit at your desk with your work in the background and hit refresh every 30 seconds from ~ 2pm to 5pm. Meanwhile you've got to have an e-mail all made out with the information necessary to snag a DOTD, see UB's sticky thread for the requirements. NEVER HESITATE. All HI khuks are the shiznit, so just buy the one you see that gets you hot. Then you can gloat. PS don't get fired or divorced, thats the trick.

I know, aproy1101. I have an old addiction to the BAS.:foot: :o :D

I just got today the one from the 02/23 DOD so had to get the one from today's DOD too. Talk about acute form of HIKV. :o :D

I am eyeballing a nice shopping cart and a dry place under a bridge on the Missouri riverfront here.
Talk about the "debt is good" concept.
I don't know abot the debt, but the HI khukuries are sure good.

I used to be 5'8' 145 Lbs.
I'm still 5'8".....

I might suggest getting something *close* to your dream, try it out, evaluate, read here, contribute here... and keep your eye on the forum specials. I've seen great khukris sit around for several days recently. Seems the sharks do sleep from time to time. Don't overlook the "little" sirupatis. They are surprisingly versatile, and very easy to live with. And tote around.
Welcome to the cantina.

Gotta say that is one nice WW2!!!!!

You know, I am sure that is the same WWII that has been offered before and didn't sell. It was a bit higher but still a great value. It sat for a long time. I really believe the difference is the great pics today, but then also it's just the right knife at the right time.

I have 5 now (well, waiting for the 5th to arrive). 4 Bura, 1 Kumar, 2 of them horn. 1 blem (a horn), but very nice, and now 2 villagers. They range from 18 to 22 oz.
And I am far from founding father here. I don't participate frequently enough, to be caunted as a solid member of the inner circle. However I am a Cantinista at heart and in spirit, and this is the Forum I enjoy the most.

It was on BladeForums here I first read about khuks. I started lurking on the HI Forum and started thinking to try out a khuk, but it took me almost 2 years when I finally purchased my very first khuk in August 2004 on a DOD. The same day from the same DOD I ordered my second one. Talk about rapid onset of HIKV.:o
Since then it is downhill. Or uphill, depending on the perspective.:D
I've accumulated 10+ khukuries, gave as gifts several more.

I heard great stories and learned a lot of wisdom from Uncle Bill, Yangdu, Rusty, Yvsa, Munk, Ferguson, Sarge, Naamarie, Nasty, Hollowdweller, Howard Wallace, Bruise Lee, Bri in Chi, Svashtar and the other, true founding fathers/mothers.
Pardon me for not naming everyone, the list will be really long.

You, aproy1101 are also an integral part of the Cantina. It is good for the irregulars, like me to sit down here, in the outer circle, and listen to the lively discussion in the inner circle.

This is a good place to be, you guys are good people to hang out with.

This is the place where I should pop the virtual cork and give you all a toast, the kind worthy of the great Georgian Tamadas.

Long live the HI Cantina!

HI Norm,

I know what you mean about the photos, today's photos were great. Then again its a matter of finding the right guy at the right price a lot of the times as well. I don't think we'll see a D-guard with as nice a handle as the one you have for a while. Then again the way things are going you never know!
