Deals for 5/5 -- Pix, ASTK, Thamar Samsher and Awesome buys

I already emailed them and left a message; but maybe the community knows and can answer sooner. I'm near Reno; is it possible to pick up at the shop? I also wanted to compare a couple.

You would have to wait for auntie's reply on that kind of subject.

I can't see any markings on the chainpuri, can anyone else see them?

This blade is a non HI produced blade, but it has passed HI's QC from Pala, and/or the shop manager.

You should probably call or email Aunti Yangdu and ask when she may have time to meet you. Sometimes she is just too busy to meet up but in the past i know of some that have visited.

Yangdu's posting describes it as "Chainpura Knife from Chainpur." That means this particular knife was made by kamis in Chainpur, not by kamis directly employed by HI.

HI kamis mark their blades, but that is not typical elsewhere. The fact that Yangdu posts it here indicates that it was selected by HI people and meets HI standards. Lately, HI has been getting most of its Chainpuri blades (at least the ones posted here as DOTDs) from Chainpur, which is known for this particular design.

There are many highly skilled kamis in Nepal, but they have to work to whatever standards are set by their shops/employers. When you buy from HI you are getting a blade that meets HI standards, even if it is made elsewhere. Note, however, that Yangdu is scrupulous about identifying the blades made by outside kamis, as she did in this posting.

DD on Samsher!! Darth, yer on MY LIST, BUCKO! Taking advantage of some poor, sick, and suffering senior citizen of Corn Patch while he's bed ridden with some nefarious malarial fever again......

Smooth talkin' anit'a gonna save you now, Darth... cough-cough...You're right up there on that list next to Kamidog!

Thanks. Just starting to dip my toe into the Kukri market. Figure it's nice to contribute to rebuilding Nepal. More selfishly, unsure of what the rebuild schedule will look like for more Kukris. Thoughts with those over there.

I understand she's busy- I asked if it was possible to pickup, and introduced myself. Should I call back to specifically ask when we can meet? Don't want to overburden her. I'm sure there's WAY more important things to deal with than me bugging her by phone.

Thank you. I guess I have not run across that before. Think I will stick with my HI knives. Thanks so much for the information.

Lol! True. This is my first Thamar piece, actually. Everything about it screamed to me. No butt cap, short handle, short bolster, curved spine, big belly. My "dream" knife. It'd be sweet if the tang went all the way through the handle and was peened over just so I wouldn't worry about using it to chop, but if not then oh well.

Malaria! Where you been doc? You gotta stay out of them far away South Pacific Islands and get well. Yall aint got skeeters over in the corn patch do ya? Now Darth has a Samsher! Whooo Hooo:thumbup: Mines just a little bit gooder than his tho. Mine has a butcap:D Wheres your buddy with the other curved spine? Aint heard from him in a spell neither. Hope he aint layed up with Denge fever or somethin.

You mean the feller with the gooder curved spine? That would be me.

I'm a huge Thamar fan and this samsher would have fit it nicely next to my goodest curved spine.

I'm laying low while the doc is down and out, ya know burning incense, eating pecan pies, waiting for him to get well so we can keep on keeping on ya know?

You guys can talk all you want about your Thamar Bahadur curved spine khukuris. I have the very firstist and bestest one from back in August:
