December 2021 BOTM?

So far they all look very nice and the koa wood is very interesting and unique . I would also like to add that the fit and finish on mine is superb, back spring is flush open and closed position, blade centered dead on, nice even grinds clear to the perfect tip, I haven’t spotted a flaw yet.

How does yours grade out?

Changing the scales would definitely de value the knife.

Not if it really pops the grain out and makes the owner put it in his pocket because they like it more, at that point the value went up in my mind vs. a knife they’re not too pleased with. It’s happened to me before lol.

Here are a couple of quick pics. I was a bit worried that I was spending too much money, but when the knife came in I knew I made the right choice.

Wow that’s a great looking set of Koa scales ! Has lots of figure and flaming stripes and nice contrasting dark and light streaks. They sure fid get some nice Koa wood for these knives.

and so it begins, I have seen them llisted for $400 and change but not any sold.
ane that seller is going to have to pay ebay 12 perecent and so he is out at least $50 bucks..from his profit. Better to sell here for $350.
I have two….if they start selling for $500 I may have to jump in, ha…. Might trade one for a Jan 2020 BOTM cocobolo…

Haha, he has it listed as a drop point! Lol.

Flippers that don’t know knives and selling like a boss at near double the price is both funny and sad.

There have been times I could have bought more than one and probably should have. Not to profit but to help someone who missed out like I have a few times. I’d rather help a fellow knife nut and enjoy the common hobby. If I have to resort to flipping knives to profit off of a fellow knife nerd I think I just as well sell my family heirlooms at profit than pass them on to my kids and grandkids. But I won’t, I can do better and still enjoy life and be satisfied.

Beauty is in the eye of the looker..If the Koa had been dark with a polished look along with the fabulous flame and stripes some have it would be cheep at $400.00..I just haven't seen hardly any knives of any brand with it to judge this batch Buck has. I was really surprised and excited when it was first announced because Koa Bucks ARE unusual. Add the S45VN blade with the aluminum frame with the Take Apart feature and it IS a very special 112. And a homerun by Buck! Even with a run of 500 this will always be a very desirable 112 both as a collector or a user. And I seriously doubt it will ever sell cheep either used or one with 'plain' handles. The real beauty of the Take-Apart is you can change the blade or handles to make it what you want. I don't think you have to use the handle screws if for instance want to put some nice slabs of Stag or other horn just glue your favorite. It would be fairly permanent and I'm not sure if you could still change the blade but I can imagine a one of one Custom with a great look done fairly easy. Picture some thick MOP with the grey frame with no handle screws..That would be a very dramatic looking 112 for sure! I have a extra T-A 112 with the black anodized frame and red micarta handles that I plan to remove the coating and polish the aluminum (if possible lolol) for a special display of the Take-Apart 112's next year in Atlanta. I AM excited to see so many folks modify the Koa with a different finish to make it there own and I'm sure we will see more and more pics of one with different blades (Looks great with a drop point Mike!) because that's the true beauty of the Take Apart feature. For instance I think the grey frame will look fantastic with one of the very rare Damascus 112 blades if you could find one..
Buck could and should make us a special LE 110 or 112 set with both a clip and drop point blade, the tool and instructions to change it plus a few handle choices! I know I would buy EVERYTHING offered for the 112 and I'm sure I would not be alone. After all 500 of the 112 BOTM T-A flew out the door at $250.00 and I'm sure a cool LE 110 or 112 with 2 blades and extra handles would too! I bet NO 110 or 112 T-A has been sent back to Buck in a plastic bag like the 186 (??) did 20 years ago. Maybe just offer the extra goodies (handles and blades) in the Custom shop when you ordered a Custom T-A?? Regardless I like and believe in the Take Apart concept for a high end (read expensive) 110 or 112 LE's and if Buck DOES really get behind the concept a whole bunch of us will be sending money to Post Falls and playing Barbie Bucks..The possibilities are exciting!

😆 I posted a question in the general forum and it got shut down after 27 minutes. I guess it ruffled some feathers. 😝 I know that a person is free to buy any sell at what price they want. It just makes me wonder why they pick this particular nitch to do business. I guess as long as there are buyers who willingly pay those prices there will be some who will take advantage.

Do you know if this is the second 112 take apart offered by Buck ? The first being the 2020 July BOTM.
Received a reply from Buck:

". . . to date, there have only been 2 versions that have been sold at retail."

"Be on the lookout for our 2022 catalog of products. There are a few surprises on the way."
