A 14 year old posted an apology in general, and a mod moved it to whine and cheese where it is apparently okay for people taunt, insult and use foul language . This is not okay. It's actually one of the creepiest things I've ever seen on an internet forum.

If you don't want any stupid questions on the General forum, just make a no stupid questions rule and ban anyone who doesn't follow that rule. Subjecting members - especially children - to insults and profanity because you don't like their questions is reprehensible.

It seems that the parents of said child should be more watchful of the internet as their child uses it. That being said, You have no way to prove said member is 14 years of age or not. Might be 10, 12, or even 13. COuld be a 55 year old man posting as a kid, how exactly can YOU be so certain?
Making more rules doesn't work, since most new people can't bothered to read the existing rules as it is. Speaking of which, pay specific attention to the first 2 posts:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...osting!-Rules-Paid-Memberships-FAQ-s-amp-More

Sorry to tell you this, but that is already covered and has been since Spark posted that very thread located just a couple posts above yours. I understand your concerns, but it is what it is and your concern has been dully noted.

It doesn't matter if the person is 14 or 100. You have a warning in Whine and Cheese: "If you are easily offended, have delicate feelings, sensitive eyes, or a heart condition, STAY OUT!!!!"

How can someone who wants to be treated with basic respect and dignity do so if a Moderator dumps their posts into that garbage? The thread was posted in general, which has very specific rules about how members are supposed to be treated, and that is NOT how the member is now being treated.

Essentially, the Mods are making it so people who couldn't normally be insulted under forum rules can be. That's crummy - especially when there is any possibility that the person involved is a minor.

First step, people who act like trolls get treated like trolls.
Next step, people who continue to act like trolls get banned.

Yeah because that belonged in general discussion:rolleyes:

ALL people on this forum are expected to act like and be treated as adults. Age doesn't really matter, your level of maturity does. Adults can have less than a kid so its invalid to be catering to children.

Your free to leave if you don't like the big meanies:thumbup:

Are you saying that people who may be trolling should be subject to insults and language that are against forum rules?

It's actually one of the creepiest things I've ever seen on an internet forum.

In that case, I admire your restraint in not having seen very much of the internet.

Might as well close it entirely; there'd be almost no one left there. It's wide-open general discussion... stupid questions happen. But when the same user makes a pattern of asking nothing but stupid questions, they usually get moved to whine & cheese - because they are usually a troll. (Or so honestly thickheaded that they're just as disruptive to the people who are actually trying to have a reasonable discussion. But usually they're just trolls...)

In W&C, rude behavior towards trolls is tolerated and quarantined, so as to keep it out of General. See how that works?

The person in question didn't post in W&C. Esav moved his posts there.

See how that doesn't work? It's just a moderator only way to insult members without violating forum rules. It's like a cop arresting you and handing you over to a mob.

Look, I know I can't win against Moderators. But you guys should really consider whether it is in the spirit of this forum to hand members over to the goon squad when you don't like them. Butterboy had no ability to choose to avoid the insults of the Whine forum. No one should have to put up with that on a supposedly moderated forum. Why move the posts? Why not just insult the member yourself?

And I am talking about moderated forums, not asinine free for alls. Moderated forums are the ones where members are supposed to be treated with civility and children should be able to read the content without feeling sick. You have an infraction system and the ability to ban. Subjecting people to insults instead is incredibly uncool.

See the part about making a point of asking nothing but stupid questions. Or just being thickheaded. It's disruptive. Hence, moved out of General.

You obviously don't understand how it works, and I have reached the end of my ability to explain it. I hope someone else can help you.

Moved to a forum that doesn't respect the members right to be treated with dignity. This forum has an infraction system.

Imposing a "stupid question rule", that would eliminate 70% of the posts in General... That is why you don't see members who have been around awhile hanging out there on a regular basis...
It doesn't mean all the people that hang out in General are stupid. It is usually the first place new members land when they start spending time here, and for some odd reason many of them don't have the skills, or can't be bothered to do a search on the topics they are interested in.
So for those of us that have been here awhile, there are only so many times you can read the same question over and over.

W&C ISN'T a place where people are respected and treated with dignity. There is no conspiracy against kids posting here either. There have been some great kids here. They ask intelligent questions, and act respectful. People will go out of their way to help them...

I think they are well aware here is an infraction system in place, but again, W&C isn't the best place to get treated with dignity and respect.
That's why there are warnings posted...

Boy you sure do like to argue don't you?

:D

Boy you sure do like to argue don't you?

And I have received 3 infractions from you for doing so, even though it isn't against any rule. Which is fine - I'm attempting to not argue with the people that insult me when they don't agree. I just wish the actual written rules about rudeness and language received as much moderation as argumentativeness and suspected trolling.

Then why would you force someone to go there?

Although I don't see any in your profile, they were most likely warnings. And I'm sure well deserved ones.

Then why would you force someone to go there?

The person wasn't forced to go there, their post was. Also deservedly so.

A wise person knows when to pick up the standard of righteous indignation and sally forth against all odds, which is usually very, very, infrequently.

And a person of truly strong convictions never resorts to using their perceived adversaries tactics... which you have repeatedly done.

One would think that having observed and participated in these forums for almost ten years, you would have a little better perception of how things go.

Just my .02¢...

Nobody is forcing anybody to go there. Members are more than welcome to stay out of there, or any other section of Bladeforums, of their own free will.

Sometimes I seem argumentative because I find myself explaining the same thing multiple times.

If a Mod takes your posts and transfer them from a moderated forum to W&C, you have no choice. Your posts and you are now being verbally assaulted, and you had no say in the matter.

I'm sorry to be making the same stupid point over and over, but no one seems to be acknowledging that transferring a member's posts into the insult forum takes away their right to not be insulted for their posts.

First & foremost, remember the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have done unto yourself, in other words, BE NICE. When you are polite to people, they will tend to be polite back to you.

And I am certainly not the only person who thinks the treatment of a member is out of line with the spirit of the forum or the rules as written. You can read several other people with the same opinion in those W&C threads.

The person wasn't forced to go there, their post was. Also deservedly so.
We are nothing more, or less, than our posts. Their quality AND how they are allowed to be commented on.

I am likely to be banned. Not because I violated a rule, but because I am being a pain in the Mod's collective asses. I don't particularly want to be banned, but I do not like the insults that slide on the General forum as it is, and Mods using W&C as punishment on some kid is not something that sits well with me. I've posted for years on thehighroad.org, HKPRO.com and other similar firearms forums, and I have never seen this kind of thing done to a member on a board that advertises the golden rule.

What do you mean, their "right to not be insulted?" Your "right to not get hit by bus" is revoked as soon as you walk out in front of one.

You seem to be implying that the appearance of trolling means that the protection of decorum rules no longer apply to that member.

The rule FAQ of this site says that result of not following the rules are Warnings, Infraction or Banning. Insulting and degrading is not one of those options.

Especially when quite a few people don't even believe that Butterboy was trolling, but is just naive.
