Decency and children on bladeforums

RX-79G, you are the one who is naive, and simplistic. You list our tools, warnings and infractions and banning. These are a last resort. Better to let the discussions work themselves out. Trolling is just a word, classicly it refers to deliberate disruption. Between this and personal attacks, we lose the topic, the discussion itself becomes worthless.

Better to move it somewhere it can have a different focus. We aren't insullting anyone. When I moved this here, the OP didn't follow it. Now that it has become a repetitive whine about its navel-gazing self, it is probably time to close it. Unless you like repeating yourself.

Actually there were 2 warnings issued to you, for being disruptive/argumentative/insulting to others which lead to the respective topics getting tanked. You earned both of them, after several pages of constant arguing, disruption, and eventual insulting. Not sure where you are getting this 3rd one from, but whatever you say. Why add more rules, you haven't even bothered reading what is already there? At some stage, common sense really does have to kick in on it's own, and for most people it does. Perhaps people might not be insulting towards you if you allowed someone to actually contest the things you say, without your replies getting louder and more visibly antagonistic each time in return. Guessing of course.

It is frequently said "attach the argument, not the person". Pretty much the only thing that gives me the energy to just keep going is when people attack me personally for stating an opinion about an inanimate object. Dopic1 just posted that I "look stupid". This, like every other insult, will be allowed to slide by moderators. That's the way this forum is.


But I did not post this about me. I think it is gross to dump people's posts into the insult forum when you have a stated mission of treating people with mutual respect. Especially when Mods not only have warnings and infractions, but the ability to close threads, delete posts, send emails, comment publicly and transfer threads anywhere you like.

Perhaps you do need a dumping ground for threads of this type, but maybe not to a subforum where the poster can then be called a "cunt".

If you think this is a personal insult your wrong, I have no reason to insult you an if I did I would have addressed you directly. I'm commenting on the tread and how stupid it looks and you happen to be the one posting this "stupid" stuff. The mods have clearly laid down some very simple rules and they aren't too hard to follow. Your comment "attack the argument" is valid but you're attacking the person and the rules.

Esav's comment you are "simplistic and naïve" is spot on, Butter boy or whoever his name was is a troll and should be treated as such. It's better to let these things work out on there own.

You posted an insult aimed directly at me. If you did this in person you'd get punched in the nose, but for some reason you believe you can insult someone then claim that you didn't in the next breath because you're on the internet. Incredible.

Then you defend breaking forum rules as an acceptable way to punish someone who may be breaking forum rules. Except everyone doesn't agree that Butterboy broke any rule at all.

No I don't think insulting people on this forum is a good idea and I am not defending anything but should really listen to yourself. So, now I am aiming this directly at you and I think your an idiot. If the mods want to issue me an infraction so be it. You need to get a life and seriously, you have some anger issues.

You just proved my point. You insulted me and tried to play it off, then you insulted me again. And you know that the mods won't do anything about it.

I'm not angry. I just think your behavior typifies the attitude of bladeforums, which is sad.

We are making efforts to improve the experience people have here. The overall tone, if you will. It will be a slow and arduous road with many disagreements, warnings, infractions, and possibly bannings. But it takes time, some might not like the changes, others may love them. The bottom like is that you cannot please everyone, and extensively arguing and bickering about it makes things that much slower. Food for thought.

I'm not sure what it is that I'm posting that will slow you down. I GREATLY appreciate moderation on web forums. I want everyone to be able to ask or opine what they want to without being insulted for doing so. When I have used the report feature when people have been rude, I received a warning to not argue with them. So I no longer use that feature.

You just read two posts of someone calling a member "stupid" and an "idiot", but you have absolutely nothing to say about that. I do not understand your ambivalence. Tolerance is condoning.

All you had to do was post "That language is unacceptable on bladeforums". It doesn't take a lot of effort to make it clear when the line has been crossed. "Asshole, stupid, idiot, fool, liar, 3rd grader, moron, etc, etc."


And while I have received several emails of support, I realize that I am overall a pariah, now. You just can't have consistent message about behavior if you look the other way when the pariahs get insulted. Most especially, young Butterboy.

For starters it wouldn't hurt you to learn when to let something go. The way you reduce everything into over simplistic methods and strategies is very telling and unrealistic. Sounds like "how hard can it be dealing with 100K different personalities?". When your boss says something that is unfair or something you don't agree with; I wonder how it is that you respond. Do you behave in the same manner as you do here? I somehow doubt it. What I have noticed about you in particular, you enjoy the argument more than the topic. Long after everyone has forgotten and moved on, you are still there beating your drum with the certain tone of righteousness. You really need to learn when to walk away and when to get involved. You don't have to report anything, you don't have to help in that way. But by the same token, you have no right to complain either. You draw more negative attention to yourself than you do to the actual problems you are trying to stop. That should tell you that your methods need some more refinement.
 
Well RX-79G does raise some valid and legitimate points... and he does seem much more mature and thoughtful than the 'moderator worshippers' that insult him in a crass way...
Pathetic.

To be honest, I have never worked anywhere where my colleagues or subordinates used put-downs to discuss ideas or had a boss that condoned or didn't know how to spot bad behavior - in the Navy or outside. The last time I was in an environment like that, people were finishing puberty.


Despite all the commentary, this topic is very simple: Several of your members think that the insulting behavior on bladeforums is a problem. When I brought it to the Site Feedback forum, the only commentary is about me, and nothing about the topic. And a damning silence about the insults posted in the very Site Feedback thread about rude behavior.

The take away is very clear: Moderators of bladeforums.com don't care how people speak to each other. I've even read posts complaining about the way some Mods address people. Bladeforums is not unique in its membership - there are tons of enthusiast forums out there as large, and many of them are much more polite.


Please try to consider the comments about civility on this website without making your response about me, instead of the topic. I didn't post this about me, and the message can be discussed without needing to discredit the messenger.
 
I did not mention put downs or insults. I asked a very specific question. But then the strawmen start showing up. Lovely how you continue to reduce something complex into the most simple terms to try and make your case. You still did not answer the question, but you don't need to as it would make no difference. If there is such a revolt brewing as tou indicate among the members, where are they all? I don't threads pouring in regarding this very subject that you are consumed with. Deflection doesn't cut it, not when your insinuations are as large as you are making them out to be.

Who are you to say what moderators care about or not? Were you not stopped in your tracks not once, but twice by a modeator because your behavior was out of line? Yet you say the system is broken? How interesting. In regards to civility, why is it that you cannot avoid arguing with your fellow members ad nauseum to the point where threads need to be closed after many "polite" requests from said moderators? I think you really should make some effort to lead by example once in a while. I cannot speak for the other members or moderators, but please have your facts in order when your tone suddenly takes a turn from concerned to accusatory. As far as I am concerned, I really have nothing more to add to this, it won't get through and my time is better spent elsewhere. You can have the last word, of course.

No child on the planet that could find this place & fill it all out to join would ask such dumb shit questions.
