Decent but cheap first folder for female EDC

Add a few more bucks allocated from the milk money fund and get a SOG Flash II, I gave my girlfriend one out of my eight that i have and she loves it. She uses it at work to do light tasks like open boxes and what not, but she's comfortable enough to carry everyday for protection also. They regularly pop up on eBay from indviduals new or close to it for 25-30 bucks. If the spring assist doesn't take id also second the already aforementioned Rat 1, because they are great size and build quality for a budget.

Also, didn't see that she doesn't want pink, but I'm not so sure I could recommend the Brawler, if you're trying to get her into knives I don't think it's the best choice. The blade is nice, but the FRN handle feels kind of crappy and cheap. Just my opinion.

I'd get her something with some g-10 since it's a material that just feels great and to me just makes a knife feel better. Maybe the Kershaw Nerve, or the Kershaw Scamp?

Kershaw has a new lineup coming soon you could wait a little bit and pickup a shuffle that look pretty nice

There's always the Buck Vantage Select range, or a Victorinox. Should be able to get a Huntsman for $30 or thereabouts.

Or a small Spyderco.

i just got my wife a kabar dozier folder with the pink grips its a nice little knife and she loves it its here edc now!

I have looked at CRKT Ripple or Kershaw Leek: they all go beyond 20-30 price range. So kabar dozier folder is probably the only viable alternative fitting the specifications: whatever the color!

gerber mini paraframe, spyderco dragonfly/ ladybug, kershav has tons of inexpensive options like the crown, skyline ect. opinelse are cheap and rugged, benchmade has lots of small folders that r classy too

I Gave my wife a Kershaw Chill....slim, lightweight.. A flipper but not assisted......She carrys it in her pocket everywhere.....I would also recommend the Kershaw Cryo...it is assisted opening but very nice...
Thirdly, the low cost version of the CRKT Ripple....found one at walmart for $25......I was impressed by how lightweight it was...

I showed one of them a few of your suggestions then pointed her over to bladehq to have a look around. She was asking about smith and Wesson knives, specifically the first response knife. I had a smith and Wesson that I gave away, not because I didn't like it, but because I got a new edc. It was sharp out of the package and pretty easy to flip open one handed. I gave $5 for it at dollar general. Wasn't the same model as the search and rescue though. Just don't see too much s&w talk around here.

About 5 years ago my daughter told me she wanted a knife. I was envisioning something like a Spyderco Dragonfly. I took her to a gun show and she picked out a black/black Benchmade mini-griptilian.

There are a lot of small knives that a person could like. Kershaw and CRKT both make a lot of them and you can find a few of them at your local WalMart. The mini-griptilian is a good choice too, along with many Spyderco models. If you are looking at knives cheaper than Spyderco you could consider their Byrd models.

You dont see much S&W talk around here cuz its a knife from a gun company. You aremuch better off with a knife from a knife company :)

Spyderco Delica or a Benchmade Griptilian would be excellent choices but if budget is a limiting factor they could consider picking up a Kershaw blemished knife at a good price from Kershawguy here on the forums. His website has a good list of currently available blades.

I have the black and the wife loves it.

I was going recommend the pink mini griptilian. I know that some of them dont want pink, and its a bit out of the price range but Im sure a fellow knife nerd as your self could explain the benefits of the upgraded steel and quality level as well as the fact that a portion of the proceeds from their purchase will go the breast cancer research. Its a good cause and a good knife. Another point about the mini grip is it is NOT an intimidating knife by any means. I tend to see that most women like a curvacious knife. Break angles and hard edges tend to intimidate even the male first time knife buyers. I think the mini grip is perfect.

Kershaw DWO [Delly Wade Officer], a classic in every sense and cool back story on name. I continue to give this knife to to women family members and all use.

Available for less than $12..buy several and you can probably get free shipping from a well known online seller of such.

I owned and carried this model in black until gave to my son many years ago...when it came out in pink was a no-brainer for me, still have a couple waiting for granddaughters to mature.

Best.
