Ok. I have finally decided that as an EDC knife, the IZULA will work better for me than the RC3. So i will be ordering one tomorrow when my paypal FINALLY receives the bank transfer. That being said i have a few questions for all you knife nuts out there before i make the final purchase of the knife.

1.) Should i get the whole kit? The paracord that comes with the kit, is it long enough to make a long enough lanyard to fit around my wrist or should i just get the knife and sheath and order some paracord separately? If i get the kit is there a place to put the fire steel? Also has anyone tested the fire steel that comes with the IZULA kit? If so how well does it perform?

2.) I am not going to want to carry the izula around my neck. I would like to carry in inside or outside my pocket clipped onto the pocket. I didnt see this possible when i examined the sheath. Is this possible at all? I read somewhere about "Tek Locks", but i am not sure what they are or which ones are compatible with the Rat Cutlery IZULA or where the best place is to purchase them.

I think thats all the questions i have for now. Does the IZULA feel really small in the hand? I have medium sized hands, you think this blade is a good choice for a EDC fixed blade?

Thanks to all who answer

1. Kit are great or just the Izula alone ,that boils down to your call, the firesteel is great...magnesium/ferro rod combo.
2. you need to decide if your carry in pocket (yes can be done) outside on belt I would highly suggest a tek loc.

Just order the Kit version....
biggest question here is are you getting a Black, Green,Tan,Pink Izula ?

I got the kit and I'm glad I did. There's probably just enough paracord to do a wrap and a lanyard, but it'll be close. Paracord is cheap. I think the kit is worth it just for the molle-clip and the other little clips and the fire striker.

I have big hands and it doesn't really feel small. It's a great EDC.

Could the IZULA be carried inside the pocket using a TEK loc? Also what is a good TEK loc? is the TEK loc reversible?

Ive got my eye on the OD green izula or maybe the black. Desert tan looks good too but i have my mind set on OD green for now.

i got the kit and i like it. the paracord is 4 feet long. for the extra $5 it is a no brainer. Tek loks come in large and small. i had a thread asking that question. both fit but the small is more proportional. i have large hands i think it fits my hand well. when i hold it my thumb is on the jimping, and my pinky slightly rests in the hole pommel. and i find it quite comfortable for a small knife. tek lok's let you put the knife on your belt. but they also let you mount it at an angle or inverted. tek loks are made by Blade-tech and boker. and you can mount it on both sides of the sheath.

now you have to decide what color to get.

i ended up getting a custom kydex sheath and G clip from hoopster. the RC-3 tek lok will fit the izula. i assume it is a large tek lok. it will fit but it will look a little big.

ya that orange one right? looked good

the one you saw was orange. but the one im having done will be black. and with that G clip it is sort of a cross between that boot clip and a tek lok. i also like the design

1) I agree with TTD - personal choice. I went with just the knife without the kit and have been very happy with it.

2) From your description, it sounds like you want to be able to clip the sheath to your pocket similar to a folding knife with a clip (such as a Spyderco). If so, a Tek Lock, which locks closed (i.e. around a belt or webbing on a pack), won't work for that purpose. I carry my Izula comfortably in my front pants pocket or in a jacket pocket. If you want a clip, you may want to try to have one of the various sheath makers on BF make you a custom sheath with a clip. Others on this forum may be able to recommend an easy do it yourself mod to the standard sheath.

I have large hands and the Izula feels great; it is a small knife, but to me it doesn't feel too small in the hand. I mostly use a folder for EDC, but the Izula is a great size for a fixed-blade EDC.

Enjoy!

Any way to attach the boot clip for the RC3 to the IZULA sheath? How do you guys belt or pocket carry your IZULA's? Or do you just let em sit in your pocket unattached?

Thanks man and ya, you are right, i want to clip it to my pocket like i would a folder. Would be nice to have a sheath for the IZULA with a boot clip attached. Nice and small. If anyone knows if this method is possible let me know please. Also, if i decide to get just the knife and the sheath (not the kit), where would be a good place to get the same kind of paracord that comes with the IZULA kit?

i would second the idea of having a custom sheath maker on BF make something to your specifications. that way you would get what you want.

I think I saw a thread a while back about someone using the RC3 boot clip with an Izula sheath, but could be wrong. I haven't tried with mine. I usually just carry it inside my front pocket, unattached.

I got the kit, and I find it worth it. I like the little Magnesium/Ferro rod. The Paracord on mine wasn't long enough for a lanyard, but I didn't want one. I am sure had I, I could have wrapped it with a little more slack and had enough for a lanyard.

I did not get the kit and don’t regret it. I had most all the components that come with the kit and there was some stuff that came with the kit that I didn’t really need.

Just the Izula with a homemade paracord neck lanyard works for me.
