Deciding between 3 knives

Hey guys, I was looking at some videos on YouTube and some knives on blade hq and stumbled upon a knife. It's made by three sisters forge and called the beast, anyone have any experience with? I read some people saying that it is a better value for money than sebenza.

As others have said, go for the Sebenza first. If it's not for you, the resale value won't hurt your pocket.

I'm a fan of TSF Beast, I have 4 of them. They are great knives, currently they are being made with S35VN as opposed to the last run in M390. Like em, love em, but there is no comparison to CRK. As far as bang for the buck, anyone can argue that point. Please don't be misled, the Sebenza is in a class all by itself IMO. The workmanship, quality of material, and years of proven service makes for a great knife that everyone should experience.

I have no doubt in my mind the sebenza will be everything people say it is, but I just want something a little different this time around. But who knows, I may end up getting one if I don't find anything else. But the beast is defiantly awsome looking. And the samaratin is gorgeous, I'll probably end up with one of those.

The Sebenza is a classic for a reason. I'd recommend you buy one now and get it out of the way. If you don't, you'll just end up buying it later.

I think you guys have finally won me over, looks like I'll be getting a sebenza soon :) I saw a nice carbon fiber small 21 on knife art for 395. Is it worth the extra money to get it over a normal ti for 350?

Absolutely. At 2.3 ounces, it will disappear in your pocket. It's my favorite Small Sebenza.  On the other hand, if somebody wants to argue that the Small Micarta is nicer, they won't get any pushback from me. The bottom line is, you can't go wrong with any of them. :)

If you have not owned a Sebenza yet, I advise that. It's not the perfect folder, but it's pretty damned good and no production maker really rivals CRK. The Spyderco Sage 2 Ti is very similar in design and less than the Southard. Still I would say Seb. If you are anal about things like blade play after 10 years, centering upon close, machining, etc., CRK is about as anal as you get on a production knife.

I do not like the CF because I do not think it adds any traction or major performance advantage given both CF and ti are exceptional materials...the base ti is awesome. I do however love the insignio blade, and find it to be one of the most useful blades around. I really love the micarta as well. So to me, a micarta insignio double-lug is heaven...the knife is such a great cutter I think it outperforms most paring knives when it comes to food prep, and the extreme hollow grind makes it a wicked slicer.

Well I guess I'll be ordering soon :D

See what I mean? There's no way I'm going to say pnsxyr is mistaken. It's mostly just a matter of personal preference. But whichever version of the Small Sebenza you choose, you can't go wrong. You'll still end up with arguably the finest production folder money can buy.

PS: In my opinion, the only real advantage to the Carbon Fiber Sebenza is how light it is. I just love me some lightweight knives. :D

I think the reason I'm going for the sebenza over the mini samaratin is because of the fact that I would be paying 400 for a knife nobody really knows about.

Right you are. And trust me. Once you start thinking about buying a Sebenza, it won't leave you alone. As the Borg would say, you WILL be assimilated. Resistance is futile. :)

I agree there is no such thing as a "bad Sebenza"! If Mr. Reeve takes a folder to the market, it's supporting a level of anal attention to details that is very hard to match!

I really like the look of the CF, but wished it were more textured for a little more leverage like how the micarta gives that grippy addition. I know the trade off of rougher CF is that the weave is not nearly as visible, but I think it is a nice addition for usage when wet as I find bare titanium to be a bit slippery. I really liked how ZT did the 0777 as kind of a trade between the extreme grip of the peel ply CF Spydercos and the smoother polished CF in that it gives some grip and great looks. I've debated buying a CF with the inlays to see how they compared as on pictures they look more textured.

One other reason to go for a Seb...it is really the benchmark of folding knives. When a high end folder comes out, it gets compared to a Seb as new medical treatments are compared to the "Golden Standard" of care. If you get the Samaritan down the road after you have a Seb, you have a baseline to compare to of what is arguably the industry's finest. While no knife pleases everyone, the Seb pleases quite a many and I find having a Seb to act as that comparison makes future knife purchases easy to justify or decide against.

So not only will you have a super high-quality folder, but you will have a benchmark in which you can compare to other knives down the road to help determine if the fit/finish/features does or does not justify your contemplated purchase.

Southard if you prefer flippers, if you like thumbstuds get the sebbie

All and all I thought I was going to get a sebenza, but I just can't bring my self to spend 400 on a user/edc blade yet. It's one of those things if I lost it I would lose my mind. The southard is considerably cheaper and I have really wanted a flipper. And I have seem some nice pimped southards :O

Well if you MUST delay buying a Sebenza, you could do far worse than a Southard. As a matter of fact, the Southard is one of my favorite production flippers. So have at it! But just remember what I said about the Sebenza. You're already hooked. You just don't know it yet. ;) :)

PS: If you decide to go with a flipper, I'd suggest you also check out the new ZT 0770CF:

Yes for me it is worth it as I really like CF on my knives. The micarta model would be a solid choice also. Its in my pocket now and came with a upgraded lanyard. The ZT 0770CF is really nice and a good bang for the buck, but it's an AO knife and not in the same league as the Sebanza in my eyes.I own and carry both knives.Sebenza and stick a fork in it!
